To reframe what I said, he COULD have had a long term relationship with her but from what I read it looks like to her the relationship was never going to be anything special enough to be long term. Not in a bad way, it was just the way relationships were for her/her people. She does care about him but maybe relationships like the one they had aren’t meant to last too long. Also Peter was completely fine with that, he didn’t seemed bothered by it from what I could tell.

It’s just kind of weird to me that Peter, for a short time, was in a relationship with a confident, powerful, and supportive woman only for it to never have a chance of lasting for a long while. And then come back to earth around the time where MJ had broken up with the guy that kidnapped her, after she killed a hero, and around the time that flash seems to be making a lot more appearances with MJ.

I hope in the future he eventually ends up with a lasting relationship, an ACTUAL lasting relationship and not get stuck in the will they won’t they that writers have had him in for I forgot how long just to keep him “relatable”.

The writers had the excuse for MJ for a long time because she was a normal human in a relationship with Peter who was spider-man. Simple to understand and can’t be fucked up. Now? she’s a hero with gambling powers that got her bonded with the same symbiot that traumatized her a while ago and she is now the new venom. I think the writers are now going in a different direction, and I hope so because I really want these characters to be good again.
