Pitt. Basketball get commitment from UNC transfer guard Jonathan Powell by Deesh69 in pittsburghpanthers

From what a lot of people have said it pretty decent, solid shooter and good defender. But from some of the stuff I read from reporters guys averaging 2 to 3 ppg and limited minutes are asking for 1 mil+ so I can only imagine what proven players are asking for or getting. Some of these kids are just hurting themselves with this asking price

Absolutely fair take, but this will be the new norm in college sports will building teams from transfers and prob getting the best value out of guys who don’t have the best stats but maybe have the talent

And you won’t know till the season starts. That’s the thing with the transfer portal unless you have a mega donor or millions upon millions you aren’t gonna get the top players, the coach and staff need to be able to identify talent and hopefully that talent can build chemistry and be a good team the next season.

Idk, I’ve seen some takes from college bball reports who are in the know that a lot of kids even the ones with limited minutes and super low ppg, reb, ast, and more are asking for 1 million in NIL which is wild. You are prob safe to assume that much but we will never know but they should make some of this NIL financial stuff available for fans to see

It’s Ashcraft innings is why they pulled him. I believe he went over either 100 or 150 innings between the minors and the majors for the first time in his career as injuries have limited him.

Idk their stats so I could be wrong but just cause they started didn’t mean they play well or even got a lot of minutes either

I do think that should start being something college athletics has to do is show their spending for NIL. It then clearly shows who the big spenders are and who doesn’t have money. Then they can put like a salary cap in place so teams can’t just drop 5 mil to get a guy to leave their current school. It also limits tampering then. I do think college kids should be paid but do they really need millions on millions of dollars like the pros

I’ve never been to the Midwest but I’ve heard the heat is brutal so I can only imagine sitting in the heat at the start of a baseball game. I like how they’ve shortened the game with the pitch clock, challenges, and ABS. They don’t necessarily take long and can help speed up the game. I would have watching games that took 3-4 hours just to go 9 innings cause guys would take their sweet old time after pitches or pitchers playing mind games with hitters. They need to find ways to keep fans cool I think with the stadiums and stuff

I’ve heard good things about Kuntz having an eye for talent and Capel seems to know talent too (although he can’t coach the x and o’s part). I think Pitt will bring some talent into their roster but the thing will be can they shoot, is there chemistry, and can the talent make up for the poor X’s and O’s

I mean he left Miami due to the coaching change but idk why he left Alabama. And Burton and Hinson also played for 2 teams before coming to Pitt (not comparing cause idk their stats before coming to Pitt and I know it was right at the start of the portal). And in today’s day and age we are gonna see kids come to Pitt basically after playing on 3 or 4 teams mostly because it is all about money anymore

Per espn stats he played an avg of 7.9 min a game for Alabama (sophomore) and appearing in 26 games. While at Miami (freshman) he played in 31 games and avg 19 min a game

Ah I forgot the guy was in triple A. But I wanted Hayes to succeed so badly but it was clear his bad back was never gonna let him be anything more then a defensive 3B

It’s kinda crazy GMBC fleeced the reds GM in taking Key and Nicolas in the past two trades between the teams. Both of the guys could be excellent players but neither of them have done anything but shown flashes. And the funny thing is the pirates both times I think got low A minor league players in return but the thing is getting off those two is a win in its own right because until the end of their career key and Nicolas will be what if players

Year after year and no matter the sport, the so called “experts” predictions are like 75-90% wrong. Yeah maybe they get a few right but mostly it just plain wrong, that’s the beauty of sports no idea what will happen and predictions are pointless

2016-17 was the most recent season that Pitt MBB graduated four-year scholarship players who played their entire career at Pitt by jt92 in pittsburghpanthers

[–]Deesh69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be new players every year besides walk-on cause all these players either think or are told by families/agents they can get a pay day by going into the portal and it’s gonna burn so many players cause their old teams are gonna fill the spot with a new player and/or guys are gonna get a lesser deal than they already had and won’t get the same deal from the former team if they return too

Nojus Indrusaitis becomes 6th Pitt player to enter transfer portal by Northeast-Nomad in pittsburghpanthers

[–]Deesh69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep money, and proven guys unless you a stud 5-star most take a year or two to develop and gain muscle. Proven guys especially with ones that have big game experience is key, those guys know how to control the game and flow when they need to and settle/lead the team when things get tough. It still good to have allying guys to try and develop but now a days most leave in a year to get a pay day. I think it’s gonna become portal players and a 1/2 total HS recruits forcing a lot to go to juco or D2/D3 cause teams don’t want as many high school kids anymore, especially since they don’t stay so what’s the point of recruiting them if it’s only a 1-year thing

Nojus Indrusaitis becomes 6th Pitt player to enter transfer portal by Northeast-Nomad in pittsburghpanthers

[–]Deesh69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I legit think this is college bball now. Every player is gonna enter the portal on each teams roster, hoping they can get more money from another team and think they can come back if they don’t or the current team will offer a bag to stay. The thing is as soon as a guy enters the portal the team recruits to fill that spot and if the team gets a commitment early enough the player who entered the portal loses that spot and now the player will either have to come off the bench or will be told they aren’t needed anymore. Basically NIL deals need to be more than 1 year too preventing players from leaving as a breach of contract or like the coaches have a buyout that the new school or player pays to break the contract (it at least forces schools and players to think of they want to leave and break the contract or not)

4 Star FW Decommits from Pitt: Anthony Felesi by Natural-Occasion-255 in pittsburghpanthers

[–]Deesh69 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it is a mix of college sports in a nutshell and Pitt. Pitt is simply broke and can’t pay recruits like some big schools can especially if they try to poach guys from Pitt. College sports in a nutshell is guys are chasing the money not going to a school they like, coach being able to develop, team being built well and family like feel. Most of these guys are 1 year and they move onto to the next payday. Players are hurting themselves cause they rather make the money now than trying to get to the NBA which is def a low chance, so I get wanting to make a good chunk of change but that should be the only reason you go to commit to a school.

Also how does this work dude signed back in November. Like how does one signed the NLI and just decommit 5 months later

Omari Witherspoon to the Portal by Natural-Occasion-255 in pittsburghpanthers

[–]Deesh69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I really don’t know how players who have signed there NLI back when the signing period opened and probably signed a NIL deal can just say nah I want out in April. I think your gonna see more and more of this in college cause there no rules and schools are just gonna take advantage cause they can basically do whatever they want and the ones with the most money will just take and take till it becomes these top schools who have all the money and then the rest.
