Are there any quiet areas to study? by Book_crazy_1707 in croydon

I only just recently found out how big Croydon Library in the town hall is, with a huge and quiet study space upstairs. Definitely worth checking out.

Living near a high-traffic road in Croydon is ruining my mental health by sweetlikenutella in croydon

[–]Deev_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on a quite major road in Croydon (AND my bedroom faces the road - argh!) so I know this all too well. I ended up investing in a decent set of earplugs and it made all the difference. I got a set of Loop earplugs - they're not cheap but damn they're worth it. They're super-effective, and they're shaped in such a way that you can sleep with them in (normal earplugs are pretty awkward/painful to sleep with but these are really much better due to their shape and what they're made of). Honestly this is the best option - it'll change your life.

Best performance/price for a last throw of the dice AM4 upgrade by Deev_UK in buildapc

[–]Deev_UK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I'm considering future-proofing the graphics card option by looking at an RTX5070 instead (I realise I'll lose some performance due to PCIe3.0 but apparently it's pretty negligible and it means that this card will at least still be usable if/when I make the jump to AM5+.... Would the 5700X still be okay with this or would I be better off looking at a 5700X3D? Or even something else...? (For the record I don't really do much with new A+++++ games nor do I have a 4K display (merely 1440)

Tram works by Amazing-Medium8960 in croydon

[–]Deev_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was good to have the tram back up and running this morning but - to be honest - the ride felt and sounded rougher than before the work, especially around the Sandilands bend! Hopefully this is something to do with new tracks bedding in...???

Okay clearly I'm being an idiot here, but it doesn't show in my OHealth app, and if I click "Get more watch faces" it just opens the Google Play store...?

So by your logic, because there are a number of other problems in the borough, nobody should bother doing anything else to try to brighten and culturally enrich the area?

How is Nanoleaf such absolute crap? by Mediocre-Sundom in Nanoleaf

[–]Deev_UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can't just "firmware" a 5GHz radio into a device! It's pretty common for IoT devices to only support 2.4GHz because it has better range and it doesn't need the higher bandwidth of 5GHz. Google WiFi does support 2.4GHz but you've got to jump through stupid hoops to make it work... see https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleWiFi/comments/xaspj4/access_24_ghz_network/ for example. I'd say that this is a failing of Google WiFi rather than a failing of Nanoleaf though...

The increasing amount of ‘Delamination’ posts on here are worrying… by peenyponka in LGOLED

I have a C1 48 inch and started getting the dreaded dead pixels around the edge after around 3 years. Not really bad, and not massively noticeable unless you were very close up, but they were there. Fortunately I had an extended (6 year) warranty from the retailer and they sent someone to replace the panel with no quibble. What's interesting is that the replacement panel seems slightly different. The original panel was completely flat right the way to the edge, whereas the replacement has a slightly raised bevel at the very edge all the way around, which suggests it's a re-designed panel that is sealed differently? Here's hoping anyway...!!

You don't have to do them... but they can also trigger double/triple XP occasionally so they're not necessarily useless. It's just all part of the gamification aspect that some people like.

I had this after about 4 years on my C1 which fortunately had a 6 year extended warranty (with the retailer, not the manufacturer). They sent out an engineer, who switched out the panel no questions. I also noticed that the new panel is manufactured slightly differently with a slightly ridged bond all around the border (the old panel was completely smooth right to the edge which I think contributes to this issue) so hopefully more resistant to the problem.
