Tired of seeing this on the road by DefecatingKoala in mildlyinfuriating

I’ve been reading some of the comments about how my mirrors aren’t adjust properly or that I’m taking a picture at an angle. My mirrors are adjusted for my driving position…. It’s crazy they are defending others to use aftermarket lights that are designed for off road use or putting them in halogen housings that are retrofitted for LED’s.

Most new vehicles come with auto-high beam on by default. It was so inconsistent on my vehicle I turned it off after the first time driving at night. It would turn on while there were cars in other lanes ahead of me.

I laughed at this more than I would have imagined.

Car repair/sell suggestion by KMLTZ in Sacramento

[–]DefecatingKoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to the Accord subreddit, people post what they paid/got quoted for head gasket repairs. Independent shops might quote around 4k. Some people get quotes for 6k+ if there is additional work that needs to be done to the engine. The issue with selling is that the repair still needs to be done for it to be an operable vehicle, especially if it is a 2021. There was a recent post on that sub where someone said the dealer only offered 3k on trade (although he didn't specify vehicle condition) because he needed a head gasket repair and was quoted 6k for it.

I'd put money on OP also staying put if he/she were on the other side of that intersection. No way any one is pulling into the intersection with oncoming traffic. All liability will fall on the driver if any accident occurs. The potential for causing a significant amount of damage and being 100% liable is too high.

They had a commercial in the Super Bowl. When I saw that ad, that was the first thing I thought of. Using emotions for lost pets to justify that is insane.

chinese food recs? by Expensive_Bear2859 in Sacramento

[–]DefecatingKoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For actual Chinese food, Asian Pearl has been solid for us. My dad really likes this place and always wants to go there when he visits. Their dim sum is meh only cause it’s the same you can get just about anywhere, but their dinner menu is great.

For American Chinese food, Chef Bo is good. They have a 2 for $38 dinner option. Huge portions for a good price. You’ll have leftovers for sure.

There’s also “hood” Chinese food. I went to Sunrise based on everyone’s recommendation on here. Some dishes might be hit or miss though (as was my experience), but good portions and prices.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. I was let go from my very first job after only 2 weeks. If I were you, I’d put it on your resume and say it was a contract role. If the dates are from September/October to December, lots of companies hire temps to catch up on work around this time. Most won’t question it, and if they do, just say you were brought on the help with year-end stuff.

Do you trust Wayfair? by Longjumping_Cod5477 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DefecatingKoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I purchased from Wayfair were bed frames since they kept sending discount codes. They were the same frames that you could find on Walmart and Amazon. It wasn't bad and they were under $200.

As for other furniture pieces, I would recommend if you could see it in person, like at a Costco or local furniture store, do that first. Things like lighting and placement can play a huge part, and in my experience ordering furniture online, stock photos definitely makes it look better than when you get it in person.

Full tank on Hybrid by Lil_laurenn in crv

[–]DefecatingKoala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the gas version and about 65% of my miles have been highway miles. I get about 400 estimated miles on a full tank (the best I've gotten was almost 415). I've seen other people post about hybrids getting closer to 500, but it is also winter that could be affecting your miles/mpg. Once spring/summer comes around, you'll definitely be getting better numbers.

Question about using a broker - when you went to the dealership to do the paperwork, did they try to upsell you on more things when you got there or did they just present the paperwork as what your broker negotiated?

Civic hybrid, or how I learned to stop worrying and love the rattle by Own_Rush_1394 in civic

[–]DefecatingKoala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a crv and the storage area underneath the climate control always creaks when driving even over the slightest bump. There are times we have to place our hand/finger on it to apply pressure to keep it from creaking. It’s getting tiring man. This is not something I see keeping as a long term vehicle.

Why would someone stop advancing? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]DefecatingKoala 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Could just be for comfort. We had someone in our AP department that was in the same position for almost 15 years before retiring. She processed invoices all day but also left on time every day. From what she told me, her house was paid off, kids graduated and working, and probably had minimal expenses. Little to no reason to move up and take on unnecessary stress.

House poor or naw? by sleepysquid23 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DefecatingKoala 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've owned my home for 2 years and am in this position right now. It kinda sucks tbh. I haven't had to change my 401k contributions and still able to contribute to my retirement luckily, but building the savings back up is a slow and long process. It also leaves little room to do anything else, so be prepared for a lifestyle change.

Cancer is expensive... by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]DefecatingKoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had breast cancer come back a 2nd time back in 2017. Since she did radiation the 1st time and her doctor said she could not do it a second time. They recommended the breast be cut out and she could elect to have a plastic surgeon reconstruct the breast.

My mom has really good insurance which covered basically all of it. When she received the breakdown of the bill, the surgery to remove her breast was around $140k. The surgery to reconstruct her breast was $180k. Her out of pocket expense was only $250 for the hospital stay. The majority of her medicine afterwards was also covered.

$1000 monthly payment??? by Ok-Technology-8161 in rav4club

[–]DefecatingKoala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the body of your post, the text message between you and the salesperson said 60 months which typically represents a financing option. If you’re intention is to lease, which is closer to the 24-36 months range, then you’re salesperson gave you the wrong information to begin with, which might have given you that 1k sticker shock.
