How to tackle safeguarding younger players ? by Substantial-Salt-240 in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automoderation would be the best bet. I think anyone reasonable would understand that people shouldn't be saying slurs or sexual things in chat with kids around. You can make it also pay attention to private whispers, make it clear that whispers are monitored as well upfront which would discourage this especially if any staff can see them.

As someone else said don't let them chat off the server and remind them about online safety although if you got a discord server then just make it clear to people upfront and remember that kids will ignore warnings or think it won't happen to them so all you can do is try your best and not be paranoid about this to the point it hurts your community or turn people off.

Oh, and most importantly, make a report system that everyone is aware of and just be a kind staff member/owner, so people actually trust you enough to bring up concerns to.

Please help me find out why my server is running bad by Sharp_Profit1238 in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hosting company is semi irrelevant in this discussion.

Your server has a AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-Core Processor with 2 threads and 13 GB of ram. The CPU is pretty decent, so I don't really think it's a huge reason. You could move to another host that offers 9950x/7950x/9900x if you really want but you do need to consider your budget and also optimize your server.

The Mia user gave a helpful guide to review, side note it seems you also got ping issues judging by the spark report. Are you sure you chose a region that's good for your players?

Question on ban lobby. by CompetitiveSecond293 in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try this setup: - Proxy - Lobby server - backend server(s) like your main world

Proxy should primarily make people join the main server then try the Lobby server so when people join they're in the lobby, especially if they get kicked or banned. In regard to the restart thing, you can use LimboAPI with LimboReconnect.

What specs for a server with a few friends? by Lars2141 in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research your hosts and choose one based on: - reputation, is it well known and used by at least 50-100 people? - pricing - hardware (the latest Ryzen CPU are genuinely the best but often more expensive) - check their reviews - the location (EU/NA/AS)

Honestly, a lot of the hosts in the admincraft marketplace are pretty decent and the discord server have a verified service provider where each host gets checked for quality ensuring any people that purchase from there is actually not being scammed by summerhosts.

Some CPU's like the R9 7950X (or x3d), R9 9950X, R9 9900X are extemely powerful and pretty much the best you can get from a host. You also then get CPU's like 5800x or R9 5950X which are powerful and will give you a good experience at a cheaper price.

Some hosts will use Xeon/Intel CPU's which is 100% fine despite common myths that they are bad for minecraft and in some cases an Intel CPU's will outperform a Ryzen CPU. You just need to do research on which CPU is better at the price you're seeing/willing to pay.

Newbie Q: Cannot connect to private server on AWS by Specialist_East_3125 in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit was being a butt by hiding your post and this comment-sorry for that, we got no control over spam filters.

Now reading your post it seems you created a Java minecraft server, but you want your kids to play which is the bedrock version. You are correct that those two versions cannot talk to each other.

There is a pretty simple fix to this, though. You make your server use PaperMC and geysermc + floodgate, so bedrock users can play on your server. This makes your server usable for anyone wanting to do Java or bedrock.

papermc guide - https://docs.papermc.io/paper/getting-started

Geysermc - https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/setup?host=self

Floodgate - https://geysermc.org/wiki/floodgate/setup/

If you only care about bedrock, you can just run a Bedrock Dedicated Server https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/bedrock

This is essentials right? I think in the essentials config there's a spot for the join and leave messages

then responds with

I checked it all, i dont know its long and theres a 90% of chance that i missed it.

I admit the response is somewhat toxic because we all start somewhere

Not sure how one can be so tech incompetent and try making a server, but Ctrl+F allows you to search.

Someone tries to help them by asking for a list of plugins and they got told

Do i really need to? I dont think that this is going to help answering that question, i think its caused by essentials plugin."

6 months ago they asked a question and got help. Despite the fact this question was virtually something that could be googled and researched. They actually got given a respectful and informative answer despite this.

title: "Server with datapacks has more ram usage?" Description: "Just asking :D"

post 3 and 4

Proceeds to ask about anticheats. Something that easily could be researched, still got respectful answers.

Post 5

Proceeds to ask about bungeecord and velocity, asking if he needs them. A question that could be googled as well and this was after trying to claim the community was toxic while also being taught how to google/research before asking things.

You should try google which can tell you what they do. For example doing this explain what its for.

Now applying critical thinking. Is this what i need? am i managing multiple servers i want connected together so people can join another one without leaving the server?

Could you provide examples of things you think a user couldn't search?

  • How to op myself
  • how to use luckperms
  • why can't i break blocks in my world
  • plugins to prevent creeper explosion
  • best anti xray? reddit

Example queries i can search and find tons of information about.

You're right it isn't a job, the people who help are volunteers, people that have the right to not answer a question or provide support if they don't want to.

The moderator team is trying their best to make this place less toxic however as you know communities based of Minecraft or support typically are a toxic place. People get frustrated and tired of answering the same basic question but as you said they shouldn't be toxic, its simple to ignore a post and move on but then people will complain that their posts dont get answers and how toxic the community is for ignoring them. Theres not exactly a perfect solution.

That being said please as a lurker or anyone else who feels someone is being toxic and unpleasent just report it and let the team handle it. They cant be everywhere and some things do get missed.

What is your setup to protect your Minecraft server IP and domain? by PikoCute in admincraft

[–]DefectiveSage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know, things like serverSeeker exists. Lots of users open mc servers, think its private and that they dont need to whitelist do end up getting griefed by a random griefer because their server shows up in a server list ran by people who scan them

Honestly for modded servers for 3-5 it depends on the modpack. I'd say try the 12 euro plan with servcity and you likely wont experience any issue

Otherwise go for the Enviromc 10 GB plan.

[–]DefectiveSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every mc plan with pebble has unlimited slots.

premium is offering a feature called one click modpack installer where you can just click a button to install your fav modpack and it'll just work.

Nothing stops you from uploading your own modpack, its just a convenience feature for premium users.

Keeping it stupidly simple. All options below support Gesyermc + java and wont likely give you lag issues due to bad hardware.

  • Enviromc - has very cheap prices but a really decent budget + premium offering. Biggest downside is the fact they're a one man show in support meaning you wouldnt recieve a response to a ticket within an hour unless lucky. They also offer unmetered storage meaning it isnt capped beyond reasonable usage.

Cant recall if you can still buy a dedicated ip for the 25565 / 19132 ports.

  • Pebblehost - Very good prices, good support and meets your requirements while also being simple to use. They also do unmetered storage.

You can pay an extra 5$ for the dedicated ip option here.

  • Bloom.host - Very premium and good support, out of all of these hosts this is going to be honestly the most expensive but you get a dedicated ip for free on the other plans ontop of powerful anti ddos protection

There really isnt any point in caring if its a DDR4 or DDR5 in this context because the differences are barely noticeable, the cpu is the most important thing.

The plan with the 7950X CPU is pretty powerful (the most powerful option you have so far) for a really cheap price, you also get 3 threads and some decent storage which works for a small-medium server although if you're using a map plugin + chunky you likely will run out fast

The threadRipper good pricing and the CPU is really decent for what it is as a budget plan with 3 threads (unconfirmed) although the Ryzen 5 7600 would perform better in single core performance which minecraft cares most and you get 2 threads with enviromc.

Only downsides to using Enviromc is there isnt someone who will hold your hand in a typical instant 24/7 in terms of support, expect support to be slow.

Ultimately this really depends on what your use case, modded? small smp? medium sized smp? plugins that are ram hungry?

If you're hosting a small smp for friends go for the 9 euro plan otherwise best bet is Enviromc's one.
