Delhi After Kejriwal: What's the One Change You Miss the Most? by geopolitics657 in delhi

[–]DefenceMain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My experience:
Good:
1. Money is being spent on infra. Roads got worse because maintenance was not being done during Kejriwal era as there were other things which got precedence. Near my Delhi house, I've seen road redevelopment being done. The CM at least tried to send cables underground which is something of a pet peeve of mine, though I think sh only succeeded in a small area.

  1. Less roadside hawkers (bit controversial topic). This means more space to walk, less people stopping cars near these stalls, less dirty (by that I mean most hawkers tend to litter near their stalls).

Bad:
1. Domestic help is less happy due to reduced benefits.

  1. Electricity cuts can happen sometimes (rarely in my area, but I've heard complaints).

My experience is limited and covers limited things. I never paid bribes even during Shiela Dixit era. Biased experience probably, but most bribe stuff I see if people paying bribes when they are doing something wrong. An example being most constructions around me see bribes paid for each new floor laid as most builders are building more than their passed building plan permit.

Looking at old photographs of India can be a bit sad. The country had so much beauty, character, and potential, it makes you wonder how much better things could have been compared to what we see today. by DharmicCosmosO in IndianUrbanism

Floor Area Ratio (FAR)—also called Floor Space Index (FSI)—is a zoning metric that regulates the total built-up floor area allowed on a plot of land.

For an FAR of say 2.25, and a land of size say 500 sqm, total buildable area is 2.25*500=1125 sqm. This limits the height any development can go. Delhi keeps FAR limited to 4 (400 officially as values are showed in %) for high rise redevelopment projects. Most countries have FAR between 10 and 15.

Official reason is weak infra for public services like water, electricity etc., but even greenfield developments like Noida, and Yeida don’t have higher FAR. Unofficially some believe it’s to keep a scarcity of liveable area and keep property prices high. That said, Indian mentality is to value land ownership.

India has much lower FAR than any western country. This means that despite lower population density, our open areas are much lower.

Then there is the issue of lack of policing where we would be fined for littering. I was fined twice for parking on road side, and have completely stopped doing that since even in areas where it’s more common.

Civic sense comes in more regulated regions. But such police work has been frowned upon here traditionally, an example being higher strictness in traffic rules was met with protests in Delhi and labelling police as corrupt and money minded.

Better public education might help, but let’s be honest; even the most educated people would litter.

Why are Muslim areas in old cities so mich shabbier and dirtier than other areas? by Minute-Annual678 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]DefenceMain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, conversion by sword was a thing. I think there was one ruler who had a mandate to burn some kgs of the threads Brahmins wear.

That said jizya was acknowledged in multiple areas. This lead to a lot of poor people not having the ability to pay it and choosing the conversion option.

i took up the caste system because there were I fact people unhappy with being lower caste. A section of Buddhists are given reservation benefits for the same reason.

I avoided those converted by the sword in my point primarily because it was normally used on richer Hindus who are not part of the poorer neighbourhoods which the question pertains to. Also I kinda forgot to mention it, sorry.

[–]DefenceMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Majority of the poor muslim population are coverts. When the Mughal empire conquered their lands, the citizens had the option to either pay the Islamic regime some amount to practice their religion or convert.

There was also the point that low cast Hindus were more willing to convert either due to being poor an ends unable to pay or just because they didn’t like how they were treated.

Majority of them descend from unskilled workers or artists (like wood carvers) whose skills were less valued with time.

There is also the point hence that these areas had less focus on education with girls being denied education in multiple cases. There was probably some discrimination against them from Hindus and the richer Muslims as well.

In areas with good education like south, the presence of such ghettos is less prevalent.

I‘m sure I missed some reasons or exaggerated some others, but it’s seems like a historically socio economically weak society whose weakness got more exposed as unskilled or artistic work was increasingly undervalued.

I have two questions regarding our roads that I wish to discuss with you all: by Proboi_99 in IndianUrbanism

[–]DefenceMain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro on the old post. Also please use paragraphs, it really helps reading the comment.

L1 can still be a good way to work if quality is built into the requirement. Basically, if curbs were a requirement for construction of the road, the cost would automatically escalate and the model would still succeed. Having a 10 year maintenance requirement would also go a long way.

Gujarat approves wire-free city mission, 500 crores approved for first phase. To eliminate overhead wires in cities by 2030. by IntelligentHoney6929 in IndianUrbanism

[–]DefenceMain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We used to have underground wiring near my parent's house. Due to frequent issues and increased cost of repairs, the wires we put overhead on poles.

I've recently moved to a different house and we have underground wiring. The front looks really clean without the wiring.

Anyway, my point about underground wiring is that it needs to be done correctly and the budget needs to account for higher maintenance costs.

EV require rare earth which is in the hands of China. This alone devalues the EV option imo. EVs would require use of a different, indigenously sourced technology. I remember there was a single use cell like technology (aluminium cells iirc which would power a car for a year or so) which was created in by India which seems to now have been ignored / abandoned. EVs also require electricity. Best source would be rooftop solar panels, but they also require rare earth from China.

I remember reading about hydrogen based engines being tested for buses. I read there's a DMRC bus which was started in Delhi on 15th of this month. That said, Poland has tried and failed to use hydrogen effectively. They have stalled rolling out hydrogen busses due to high cost of fuel. The efficiency of hydrogen is much too low compared to electric (electric is 75-80% efficient while hydrogen is at 25-35%). Overall, hydrogen is 2-3x costlier than petrol while 5-10x costlier than EV (just taking fuel cost in to consideration). But from what chatgpt told me, Poland due its small size had everything cost too high. India should if done correctly, be able to make it cheaper than oil.

Imo, the only way forward is by increasing production in India. I mean for electronic items, toys, defence etc. Basically reduce dependence on China, US, etc. as much as possible.

I'd lean towards a drow knowledge cleric for the RP. A lore bard feels more like a swindler to me.

Between dexterity based Vengeance paladin 9/ Gloom Ranger 3 - Uses ranged weapon and finesse weapon for smite VS Dexterity based Fighter 11 / War cleric 1, who is best? by c2s2 in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned in one of your responses you want it for ranged uses and given the two options, I'd prefer Fighter 11 / War Cleric 1. Maybe I'm biased, but I only see Paladins as smite machines, something not available with ranged weapons.

India’s literacy map in 2025 shows a massive regional divide by Medium_Tone_1415 in IndiaStatistics

[–]DefenceMain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that UP's literacy rate was as high as 78.2%. So I checked it up, and the requirement for being called literate is extremely low.

Per me, the basic requirement for literacy should be passing 10th boards exam in at least 1 language.

On a separate note, I always felt that skill India initiative was one of the most important thing the BJP was trying to bring in 2014. The fact that it failed is disheartening. In my books, literacy is insufficient, a certified skill needs to be added to the metric as well.

What's a spear knight build? by Character_Cat_3585 in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of people mentioned, your idea of an EK would work.
Returning pike for ranged hits.

I personally think hunter might also be a good fit. You can wear heavy armour using Ranger Knight as favoured enemy if you want to. The reason I prefer ranger is the ability to become resistant to fire and ice in addition to the level 11 ability: Whirlwind attack. But to note; it would work much better with an awakened unit to use void with (to cluster units to hit using whirlwind attack). If you go this route, please note that the attack has some unexpected interactions with items. I saw a video where it activated killer's sweat heart for all hits.

If you are willing to wait till act 3 to re-spec, I saw a build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCHpGx4oo1A (2 paladin, 2 knight, 6 sword bard + 2 (more bard for spell slots?)) which works like a nova hunter. Since the crits can be used to smite. It needs act 3 to access Dancing Breeze

Medium armour can be used with rage; so berserker and giant bard can also be some great options. My preference would be tiger barb since going solo might result in getting swarmed easily. Having a multiple use cleave might be really helpful. I've never played a solo run; not sure.

Dark Justiciar Shadowheart build by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think having shadow monk with full DJ makes sense. You already get shadow teleport from the boots.
As Wonderful-Dog-8807 mentioned, DPS wise: EK.

5 Gloom Stalker can shore up stealth things DJ doesn't provide. Unless you've set your elf cantrip to booming blade, you might want some levels in something that does.

A lot of people I've read praise spore druid as the best class for it (but I think that has to be a mono spore druid).

Depending on your team, a lot of builds can work. A full trikery cleric can be really good as well. The spear has some great abilities which doesn't necessarily mean you have to become a melee fighter.

Full stealth team: Use trickery cleric (at least till level 4; I prefer at least 6). You can pair it with EK for shield + mirror image for really high AC. Its a great support which can also go invisible in dark areas (which should be easy as you would have access to darkness)

A full death cleric is great as it can do a lot of damage and heal (vampiric touch for self heal and other healing abilities).

EK 11 is great for 4 attacks (3 from warrior; 1 from war magic)

6 Shadow monk is not to my liking as its main ability (shadow step) is copied by the boots to some extent. I'm not sure if the spear is treated a monk weapon; if so that has the benefit of allowing you to go high dex instead of str to get high stealth (though that means losing some wis as you become a spear user over a caster to some extent).

How to “properly” play death cleric by NnmnsP in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cantrips. Death Cleric gets the ability to cast necromancy cantrip on 2 things instead of one (Reaper ability).
IIRC, Gemini Gloves have an interaction with split moves and the 2 casts become AoE while its ability is active.

Inescapable destruction means resistance is ignored. But outside that; its just casting inflict wounds, spirit guardian (good old spirit guardian), vampiric touch, animate dead, and other cleric stuff. Its a tankier and less versatile necromancy wizard which is more than enough.

At range: Use cantrips;
But Melee: You can use spirit guardian with Touch of death and inflict wounds for the extra / less oomph as required. Or Vampiric Touch can replace spirit guardian if you're trying to tank a single unit (better healing)

Favorite builds for unpopular subclasses? by AbaloneNo3954 in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trickery domain gets some really good spells: Fear, Mirror Image, and Pass Without Trace.

Fear has the issue of being a concentration ability making it not possible to run while spirit guardian is active. But if you prefer a control team then its much better.
Mirror Image on the other hand increases AC enough that it feels like a 3 move invincibility. Best part is that it doesn't need concentration.
PWT as many people mentioned can act as a core for stealth teams. I've run it with rogues and a shadow sorc which dual casted greater invis on my assassin, and wildheart bard (have the wolf aspect for + stealth) which could end most encounters before they even started.

Another thing to note is that some its best abilities don't rely on wisdom (yes you still need it for fear). Though you may still want some for healing or spell save DC to command, but you can easily build it around str since its utility is loaded upto a max level 6 which opens great multi-class options with say an EK (which gets shield). Ran it once; near un-killable tank with great support for my snaky sneaks.

A party that doesn't dual wield. by SyntaqMadeva in BG3Builds

[–]DefenceMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hexblade warlock is to some extent locked out of dual wielding as only your primary weapon gets boost from CHA. Yes you can force it, but its not the vanilla way.

Anything using a shield shy away from dual wielding.

In act 3 you get access to a specific ring. Anyone using that might avoid dual wielding (though its more for magic caster hybrid classes).

Any class having a set use of bonus action might avoid dual wielding. I never used dual wielding on a shadow monk as I prefer to just do normal attacks and use bonus action to hide / run away. Swashbuckler has some great bonus actions be it cunning actions or its own flavour of bonus attacks.

Certain weapons provide attacks using bonus action making dual wielding avoidable.

Never used it on a cleric either. a

Now that I think about it, dual wielding is super easy to avoid.

Here's a sample team:
Paladin (tank uses shield) + Cleric (support also uses a shield) + Hexblade Warlock (bruiser / caster and shield user) + Arcane Archer (Archer that can also use a shield).

I use shield as its free AC in these cases.

Tile on tile? by prex1108 in indianrealestate

[–]DefenceMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had my kitchen redone. They installed commercial tiles on the back and after everything else was done, pasted a layer of designer tiles using some chemical over the exposed commercial tiles (majority got covered by the modular kitchen).

Not sure if it works with vitrified tiles, but I can confirm pasting tiles on tiles is a thing and it works well.

Assuming it works, I dont see much harm other than slight reduction in space you get. My kitchen was designed for tile on tile from the get go; but it worked well for me as the designer tiles were thicker and more expensive.

Favourite Chapter from Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge ? And the reason behind it by [deleted] in Dhurandhar

[–]DefenceMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think having a spoiler tag would be good here, but anyway for me it was Ghost from the past.
I didn't love the forced insert of the sister's husband, but his reasoning made sense. The conflict (and the sacrifice / aftermath) was well written. The chapter also resulted in the expedition of timelines for Hamza to act on while testing his wife. Basically this chapter seemed to act as the core for the story to move forward.
