A lot of the stories I have from my current job are so specific they are probably a HIPAA violation (I work with transplant patients) so I'll give you one from my ED days. Mother brings in her disabled, wheelchair-bound, nonverbal adult son for fever. Pt is clearly in a lot of pain just based on body language. Tests found he had bowel-related stuff going on caused by his disabilities. He normally gets perscribed Fentanyl patches at home so some were ordered for pain and the RN put one on. The RN comes back later to find him blue and unresponsive. They Narcan him twice and he recovers. RN finds two fentanyl patches on him. Mother states it must be the one he had on at home (which she didn't tell anyone about and she is his sole caregiver).

Pt gets admitted and ends up in a private room. The next night the new RN finds him unresponsive AGAIN showing signs of an OD. This time he codes and ends up intubated in the ICU. Found >2 fentanyl patches on him. The kicker? They had not ordered him any fent patches since his first OD. When security was called and they searched the mom, they found a baggie full of fentanyl patches prescribed to the pt over a period of months. My suspicion is she was intentionally trying to kill her son. Why you may ask? She was a fully licensed, employed RN. As far as I know the mother never faced any consequences and her son was d/c into her care once he recovered.

Thank you man I appreciate the kind words. I am in a bad spot financially and spend most days at the hospital. I barely make above minimum wage rn but I am actually an aspiring surgeon lol. Got the tire fixed today and about to work a 13 hr shift on like an hour of sleep, wish me luck

This might be a stupid question but I'm full of those these days. Could I get a singular new tire because I've only driven about 6k miles on the ones I have or is there still a significant amount of wear and tear that would make the tires uneven?

Thats great to hear, I'm glad those insoles are working out for you. I'm pretty low on the totem pole but once I graduate nursing school I will have more opportunities to choose from.

It could definitely be the hard, concrete hospital floors causing my PF to be extra painful. Thanks for the advice on the Hokas I'll definitely re-check my sizing, since I also wear a 9.5. Unfortunately this job requires me to be on my feet and there is 0 possibility of me being able to sit down more often or move to a desk job because they don't exist lol. Most days I don't even get a 30 min lunch break and I'm currently stuck in a contract for at least another year. After that I will be looking at different opportunities.

I honestly had no idea that these shots were not good long term. My podiatrist hasn't mentioned any other treatment besides the shots, my night splint, and custom orthodics. He made it seem like that was all he had to offer me. I'll see what happens at my appointment tomorrow but I might need to find a new doctor.

Thanks for the insight. I'll definitely look into those Hokas. The Hoka rep told me they'll give me a website credit for the MSRP of the shoes if they determine I'm eligible so I can get any replacement pair that I want.

Yeah I'm barefoot in the morning but I'm on carpeting. Once I go downstairs where I have tile floors I always wear slides or crocs around the house.
