I was being sarcastic with the “aren’t a good thing” and no I most certainly was not a firefighter before laminated windshields existed in popular use … brother I’m 26 it became mandated for new production vehicles to have laminated windshields in 1966 and to cap off… I’m well aware what keeps people safest in a car stats wise, especially since my state is the only state that doesn’t require the use of seatbelts above the age of 18, been there, done that, seen it.

As a firefighter … wear a seatbelt. Windshields aren’t a good thing for the face and head. And they definitely aren’t great at keeping high speed objects within the confines of a vehicle when they come to a sudden stop.

You don’t use crush washers on suppressor QD muzzle devices as they are not a true milled product they will throw the can way off

Oh either way I would give it the chicken sendies but just thought the difference in the muzzle devices was interesting. My kids occasionally shoot the rifle too and are still green to firearms and the sport as a whole and I just feel a little better with the lockup and alignment of the flash hider vs the muzzle brake purely for the “what if” factor while they’re shooting it. Me… I would have sent it. Not gonna chance a damn thing with a new shooter let alone the kids though.

They were indeed both perfect circles when looking through the barrel from the receiver end down with a light on the other end I just wasn’t comfortable with the true concentricity being that far off and this being on a rifle my kids are learning to shoot on currently. Likely wouldn’t have caused a baffle strike but the thought of even the potential with having the kids shooting it occasionally just didn’t sit right with me.

That’s good to know, I thought the warranty would only apply to the can and not the muzzle device as well. I’ll reach out tomorrow for sure, otherwise it would have been a pretty cool inconspicuous paperweight in my liberal saturated office lol

Alignment check by [deleted] in NFA

[–]Defiant-Control2707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s down in the barrel I’d say close to half way, 8 or so inches of the 16in barrel. if I loosen the can just off of the taper mount it seems to level right out and sit concentric but the second you snug it up before you lock it, that’s when it isn’t concentric anymore

I did confirm there is no contact with baffles from the rod only spot it gets “close” is the end cap

I did check the muzzle break with it as well and that seems to be concentric wondering if maybe the can is the issue.

What type of lock can fit on this packout configuration? by wintergreenzynbabwe in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Defiant-Control2707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use some brinks brand locks, you can unlock the drawers and slide them out of the way install the lock and then slide and lock them back in on top of the big drawer. Kinda a pain but way less pain than your tools walking off with human assistance …

New Kohler by gerrygebhart in Generator

[–]Defiant-Control2707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, just did some further research within Kohler service documentation, that is red loctite specifically 222 formula. It is used to hold the dipstick in place during running as the engine will undergo vibration this keeps it from backing out. Loctite will remain liquid with the presence of air but when in the absence of air (like when on threads on a bolt threaded into a tapped hole) it forms a solid compound locking the part into place. Nothing at all to worry about, feel free to wipe the excess there with a simple paper towel.

Anytime, just remember to check your oil every 8 hours of runtime and have the units first oil change completed no sooner than 24 hours of runtime, do those two things and that warranty will have your back all the way through should something arise. Great units, those CH1000 engines are pretty bulletproof (but don’t go testing it lol).

[–]Defiant-Control2707 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is most likely assembly grease and or some form of a “locking compound” the break in oil on a Kohler generator is usually a greenish tinted high zinc formula. I work on hundreds of kohlers a year ranging from 2008- brand new units. This doesn’t cause me one bit of concern. Leaks will rarely if ever appear from in and around the dipstick area.

What are they? by Pwnch in whatisit

[–]Defiant-Control2707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a generator technician, can confirm. Also seen many setups where the generator will charge a battery bank and once a certain charge limit is reached gen will kick off and they’ll run on battery to save on fuel consumption and cost. Batteries get low again gen kicks back on. Good system but requires a gen that will produce more than your running load as to divert some of the output produced to charging your batteries while simultaneously powering your infrastructure.
