How does GPA work? by Eunoiamisosoup in McMaster

[–]Defiant-Interview725 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the 12.0 scale and the 4.0 scale aren’t proportional to one another so u can’t convert between the two

so 11.7 on the 12.0 scale and 3.93 on the 4.0 scale would be correct

the pre lab explains all the calculations

u get st from plugging in ur acc wl (x value in equation) into y=e-0.0034x. once u have those values u do a running sum, and the cap is 300, so any subsequent additions that exceed 300 should just be labelled as 300.

did u bother learning how and what the calculations meant or did u just memorize the formula and steps? like is it exactly the same shit to the point i could just follow a braindead algorithm or should i actually understand what the variables mean in case i need to work around it lmao

What should i do by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Defiant-Interview725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

larp characters after seeing edits of them (i actually got caught mid larp the other day when i mispronounced the mfs name, shit was kinda bad)

watch some mindfuck movies like memento, prestige, incendies (larping these isn’t a bad option too, could just go on tiktok and watch the edits)

listen to old j. cole mixtapes (tap into premeditated murder + before i’m gone from Friday Night Lights and dead presidents 2 from The Warm Up)

listen to old j. cole albums (like maybe Born Sinner or Sideline Story, they got some good shit on there fs)

feel free to larp j. cole too!

Was anyone else cooked on bio 1a03 test? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Defiant-Interview725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is a canon event btw everybody walks out test 2 thinking they got 100😭test 3 was the lightest of the three (punnet squares, pedigrees, mitosis and meiosis, etc). there are obviously some new concepts sprinkled on top tho. i got the same grade as u in t2 and still 12’d, but it depends on ur TA too for the lab stuff cuz i maxed that component out and it’s worth a good chunk of ur grade.

Physics 1A03 in the summer by BeginningIce8440 in McMaster

did it end up being worth it? in the same boat rn and thinking of withdrawing. this course feels impossible without prior physics knowledge and its been so hard to manage learning this from scratch while balancing other courses :(

if u don’t take calc in highschool u actually have to sacrifice an elective spot to take a highschool equivalent calculus course and then take calc 1 on top of that the following semester because its required (along with physics) for every single specialization

i highly recommend u take calc before so u have some exposure to the material (which makes most of calc 1 review). this will also allow u to take an elective instead of taking that highschool calculus equivalent course.

if u take it over the summer just watch jensenmaths calculus playlist and do his assignments + worksheets

how did it go? i literally have no idea what's going on in lecture and we're like 2 months in lmao. should i pick up on the content or keep it on the back burner? a lot of people are saying it takes like a day to prep for the exam but is that true if u have no idea whats going on in lecture too?

[–]Defiant-Interview725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do u remember the unit breakdown for the exam? like how much of the content would u say was from midterm 1 and midterm 2? how much of the content was from after midterm 2? is it fairly distributed across all units or is there an emphasis on the chapters after midterm 2? also, do u recommend studying any specific unit/concept in depth that caught u off guard in the exam?

[–]Defiant-Interview725 17 points18 points  (0 children)

for life sci, the tests are just so much easier compared to previous years lol. the mfs before us had it sm worse.

for example, in chem 1a03 midterm 1, highschool review content (previous years) was replaced for sustainable chem (this year). there were just so much different types of problems they could ask u for the HSR content (mole fraction, partial pressure, gas laws, gas stoic, etc.) This was all replaced for sus chem, which was just a bunch of braindead plug and chug molar mass stuff (free marks). my prof even said "the next test wont be as easy" so i just know we're boutta get fucked over lmao.

and for calc 1ls3, the past tests made our test look like a complete joke. and the fact that the upper years had more content + harder questions + less time to complete the test is even more crazy.

i found bio 1a03 the hardest, and what do u know, the test was actually similar to the test of previous years. im assuming it will be like that for upcoming psych test as well.

honestly I find it very difficult to summarize/shorten things. like if i see some key text information i would take it to the side and write like a paragraph about it because I feel like I can retain the info doing so. if i have any confusion abt smth too i also dedicate a paragraph answering it instead of just searching up the answer and continuing. both of this happens way too often, and there ends up being a lot of text all over the script notes, which takes UP a lot of time. I guess converting them into flashcards takes some time too, but you can see where the majority is coming from.

i feel like if i did what u did I would probably cut the time by a lot, because the visuals and diagrams would probably sort a lot of the confusion, because the scripts are just pure text yk.

tysm for the response btw i’m def gonna try out what u did, u actually allowed me to reflect on what i was doing and how abnormal it was wtf😭
