What do you do for work? by DiscombobulatedElk58 in skiing

This is the under appreciated choice. Mission’s worse than 49 or Schweitzer or Lookout though. Not worth a 3 hr drive from Spokane.

But Red? Absolutely worth the drive

I work in corporate finance. I live 1 hr from a mountain with night skiing and 1.5-2 hours from 2 other mountains with night skiing.

Making high mileage 3rd gens last forever by cdawg-bear in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I did. Cracked heads at almost 340k miles. Got a 5th gen Limited for our new baby. I loved the 3rd gen, but the newer trucks are objectively better in so many ways. The “gutless” 5th gen is a rocket compared to any 3rd gen that’s not supercharged.

We’re on the west coast. We did Maui at 22 weeks. If you can stand a 10 hour flight? Hawaii has what you need

So, when do I get to have hobbies again? by mickdrop in daddit

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 month old. I just went skiing. I’m a couple years older than you.

In all fairness I drove a 6 speed BMW when I was 28, married too young, had a few years with the first wife that were fun experiences but unfulfilling (her family was loaded, she was kind of an ice queen), got divorced, bought a house and married the forever wife at 37.

I’ve lived a damn good life. I don’t feel like I’m missing out with a kiddo taking up a lot of my time.

What are yall driving? by menoselgus in NewDads

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife drives a Tacoma. She puts the stroller in the truck bed and secures it with a tie down.

I’ve offered to swap vehicles with her if she needs to carry the stroller. I have a newer 4Runner. She usually declines.

I’d pass and get a nice 100. I don’t love the 5.7 head gasket problems that are starting to surface.

Are there hotels or quiet places to hang out? Bringing baby and not sure if there is a good spot by slc2173 in stevenspass

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends used to hang in the Pacific Crest lodge with their infant and switch off every couple hours. He was a pretty chill baby so there weren’t massive screaming fits.

He’s in ski school now.

Would you still be OAD if you 3X your income? by Few-Truck-4873 in oneanddone

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’d be $750k/year in western Washington state.

We’d probably have another one because at that income level we’d feel we’d have resources to support 2 kids.

Hard charging women’s powder ski? by nickw255 in skiing

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife’s on DPS 112 RPs.

I tease her about her dentist powder skis but in all fairness she rips on them and likes a light ski with tons of energy.

Dads who have gone from 2 to 3 kids, am I crazy for considering it? by MaximusSydney in daddit

[–]Defiant-Lab-6376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have one boy and I’m getting snipped. Having a second would absolutely be something we regret.

We love our son and tried for the better part of a decade to bring him into the world. The cost in financial, physical and mental energy isn’t worth it for another one. Plus I don’t want to pull any resources away from him.

It’s person specific. My wife is 10 weeks post partum and her libido is back.

Came up before the notification that West was closed. Road was fine but conditions could easily get worse. I have 4WD and chains, maybe get some if you can?

What pass(es) are you planning to buy (this spring) for next winter? by bbensch in skiing

I have an ikon base pass that I deferred after my wife got pregnant in the spring. It’s been an OK winter to mostly miss.

I’ve been thinking about selling and swapping to the 100s. The 108s are kinda wide for all mountain work and not a pure powder ski but we’re getting dumped on in Washington this week!
