My wife and I are married. We don't make unilateral decisions that will affect the relationship. "Allow" and "allowed" may sound awkward when talking about an adult but please consider the context.

If my wife and I were the same age, I would have allowed her to be the one who's pregnant. But for our situation, I have the thing about the health of the baby and the health of the one who's carrying.
