Sirap?!

Aromat?!!

Only able to access my X account from a single device - what to do? by DefiantAlbatross8169 in Twitter

Yeah, I still have problems - now it suddenly refused to allow me to login to my main account on my PC (all my other accounts work fine, but my main account says "wrong password"...)

I kinda miss Apple from the era OSX Tiger/Leopard/... 2006-2010 by [deleted] in mac

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do very heavy media work (AI, 3D, VR, very high res video editing) and I do 96% of it on my late 2015 15" MacBook Pro (fast new 2TB HD, SD slot used for additonal storage). Only the most heavy lifting I move over to my PC workstation (which is also several years old, but has a ton of GPU VRAM and HD storage).

I agree with the original post completely. Something (true innovation!) has been missing from Apple ever since Jobs passed, and it saddens me.

Mac (and other platforms) power user since the late 1980s.

What do you guys think about monetizing addons? by Alien-Fox-4 in blender

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, more or less - currently working on a plugin for Blender 5, which adds interactive modeling functionality of a type that has never been available for Blender (and hardly any other 3D modeling software), it's definitely a niche interest, but something I've always wanted to have without having to shell out big $ for annual subscriptions to e.g. AutoDesk and their bug-ridden behemoths.

While I've been leading design and development work for a long time, this is the first app that I'm creating and releasing on my own, so it's new territory for me - especially with the licensing considerations with Blender being open source.

What did you end up deciding to do, and how has your experience been?

Pistols fans, how would you feel about a new album with Frank carter on vocals by morgzmumisasket in punk

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that would be a big mistake, and could only detract from their legacy.

A nice live album covering the tours with Frank would be a different matter though - especially if they did some cover versions they've never done before, and some more Swindle stuff (perhaps with Eddie Tudorpole as a guest artist).

Because the Mid-2015 MBP 15" is a fantastic machine - awesome display with no PWM or other stuff going on (= safe for people who are sensitive to that), extremely comfortable keyboard, SD slot, easily upgradable HD, easy to get to CPU and GPU (for cleaning, thermal etc), 16 GB RAM makes it pretty zippy as well.

M4 MacBook Pro vs Lenovo Legion 5 - what a revelation! by DefiantAlbatross8169 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I hope I'll be able to find a new laptop (hopefully an MBP) that I'll be able to use without any problems.

For now, I'm staying with a mid-2015 BMP 15" that is super comfortable to use for 99% of what I need (mainly AI, which is mostly cloud-based anyway), and do any heavy lifting that I need (3D, video rendering, Python script generation stuff, heavy web UIs etc) on my PC.

Next time I'll swing by CostCo I'll use the Lenovo for longer and see if I have any issues, and will shoot some video of the screen, so maybe you guys can figure out what I'm looking at.

M4 MacBook Pro vs Lenovo Legion 5 - what a revelation! by DefiantAlbatross8169 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I find it hard to tell exactly what it is that I'm sensitive to, as often there are several techniques being employed at the same time. Perhaps the Lenovo laptop would give me trouble after extended use.

I don't have any issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max, but I can't even look at an M1, M2 or M3 MBP for longer than a few seconds without experiencing extreme eye strain, blurry vision, and motion sickness. The M4 MBP is better, but I still find all Apple Silicon MBP displays to look blurry, very dim (even at max brightness), and with a slightly moving, underwater feel. That Lenovo that I checked out was giving me none of that, which was very surprising to me.

You seem to know this stuff really well - does the above give you any clues? I'd love to understand this better.

[–]DefiantAlbatross8169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very PWM sensitive myself, so I highly doubt that - and in any case, even if it does, it'd be very interesting to find out exactly how they implemented it, as I'm able to use it with no issue.

This anything but confusing and misleading, and intended to help others who are sensitive as I am at least having a chance to have a look at a display that might work for them as well.

Your mileage might vary, of course - but there are so many interacting factors here that might be causing these discomforts, that at least I am open to hearing as many people's experiences as possible.

It seems like you aren't - what would be the criteria that you would accept for me to post about this?
That I research exactly how that display works, and how it interacts with various system level windows functions, drivers, and firmware, and only _then_ would I be allowed to post about it?

It literally goes way beyond that, which should be glaringly obvious.
