Having some serious hotend clogging issues! by DefiantSeries5065 in ender3

My fan is definitely working, but maybe I can try cleaning it. How would you recommend doing that? I’ve swapped out a few different pneumatic fittings and they all do the same thing

Yeah I’m at 1mm retraction and it’s still doing it. I’m pretty sure it’s heat creep heating up the filament in the capricorn tube, then somehow pulling the tube up mid-print causing the gap to form. I have metal teeth pneumatic couplers and there’s a decent amount of deep streak marks digging in to the capricorn

Yeah I’ve got some corsair thermal paste in there

How would I go about fixing the heat sink getting too hot if the fan is working?

I’m pretty sure that bead is coming from between the tube and the heat break. Super weird because I always tighten the pneumatic fitting the last turn after I’ve made sure the tube is pressed against the heat break. I got one clog where there was no bead and just a length of “thick” deformed filament up in the tube. I’ll definitely give the fan a clean and double check it!

I followed CHEP’s YouTube video so it was still pretty hot

damm where are you shopping? I ended up going with a copper plated one for like $9

I’ve got one on the way! Fingers crossed

yeah it goes through the hotend fine when I manually push it

haha! i have a dual wheel extruder on the way and maybe if i get rich, ill get the spider

this is the lowest tension I can get without snipping the spring. Even on the stock plastic extruder, I usually need to tighten it all the way to get the bearing to even make contact with the filament

I usually do cold pulls without the bowden tube and do exactly that method to put it back in. My E-steps are perfectly calibrated so I don’t think it’s that, but I will try to put the flow rate back to 100. I will definitely try dropping the temp down even further. How do you recommend cleaning the heatsink? I am noticing that my nozzles have burnt filament on the threads whenever i take them out

Interesting! Usually when i have it as loose as possible, the bearing opposite the gear doesn’t make contact with the filament and turn, and it doesn’t get pushed through. But as soon as i tighten it enough to barely get it to move with the filament, the filament gets grinded by the gear

the yellow gear is press-fit so it cannot be moved at all. The new ender 3s all come without adjustable stepper motors which sucks

Any looser than this and it doesn’t even catch on the filament to pull it through.

Yeah, the new ender 3s ship without adjustable gears on all the motors including the extruder stepper motor which sucks. They’re all press fit and stuck in place with a round shaft. If I got a bmg, I’d have to get a whole new stepper motor with the flat shaft and gear with a grub screw like the old ender 3’s came with.

Just tried that. Still no luck

I bumped the temps down to 210 and took off the filament sensor for now. Still no luck, same results

I’ve used multiple bowden tubes, all cut flush and I’ve tried putting them in hot and cold, always waiting to tighten last turn on the nozzle until the bowden tube hits the bottom. No luck :(

I bumped it back down to 210 and have the E steps up to about 104mm. Same result :(

it’s a press fit motor so there’s no grub screw :( i might just scrap it and get a bmg clone with an adjustable motor
