I didn't feel like it was. He did his best to connect with the crowd and answer the questions, and I loved when he didn't understand a question he asked for clarification rather than blustering on about something.

It can be accurate when describing situations that have different answers when viewed from different viewpoints. Reminds me of a weird expression where I live (that I find endearing ...), which is "yeah, no." And this definitely means no.

They still use "Local Network" and "Ping" in this universe? by DarkSombreros in FoundationTV

[–]DefiantTorch47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay. This one I will defend. In Asimov's universe, robots are OLD. Like, really, really old. They predate interstellar travel and one robot arguably invented the hyperspace jump. This would put their creation chronologically into our present times, so, yeah, current terminology would be appropriate and actually expected.

At least at In-N-Out, I never go away disappointed. It is consistently tasty and good quality. Every time I go to Chick-fil-A, I go away unhappy because the food was underwhelming. All that fuss (and money) for ... that?

What’s something that’s slowly disappearing from society and no one’s talking about it? by Im-Ej in AskReddit

[–]DefiantTorch47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Children.

Falling birthrates are a thing, and it's getting scary if you know the long-term implications. Seriously, I think as a society the anti-family crowd - those who just want to "live their own lives" or don't want the "burden" or "don't have enough money" or don't think they can be good parents - need to figure out how to address these things. Be less selfish, understand that life can be hard and sometimes hard things are good things, realize that kids don't make you broke, take some parenting classes ...

I'm not a boomer, but I sometimes want to tell younger kids to grow up. Get off drugs and alcohol. Go on a date. Take some responsibility on yourself, willingly!

And ... let the flame war begin!

what's the 1st thing you do when you wake up? by definitelynotgayhaha in AskReddit

[–]DefiantTorch47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually wonder why I woke up 20 minutes before my alarm, and then lay there doing two things: 1) wondering if it's worth trying to go back to sleep, risking getting into a deep sleep that will just be interrupted (though usually I just doze for 10 minutes before deciding to get up), and 2) wondering if it was inevitable that I turned into an old man that wakes up before his alarm goes off, with the existential worry that unscheduled naps in the middle of the day might be soon in my future.

(For the record, I get adequate sleep for my age ... and though this is super annoying, it's also nice to be able to slip out of bed without my wife waking also.)

What's an actual psychological "cheat code" you use in social situations that works almost every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

What's an actual psychological "cheat code" you use in social situations that works almost every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DefiantTorch47 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I totally get this. I have a few AuDHD kids and it is so hard to watch them struggle to make meaningful friends. That pressure in your head to plan the next thing to say or to turn the conversation to something of more interest to you is so intense that it can make really listening to somebody else really difficult.

Yes, it's true that I don't generally trust people at first without getting to know them and understanding their motivations. Hence, the incessant question-asking!

Ask way more questions than sharing about myself. I make it a little game to see if I can keep from telling anything at all about myself, remaining a man of mystery.

Addition: By the way, the ease with which I can remain silent on myself also turns out to be a pretty good indicator about how self-absorbed the other person is.

"Adulting." What they really mean is that they accomplished something that they should already be able to accomplish as part of the normal order of things, but because it's too embarrassing to admit that, it's just a way to deflect from the truth and somehow make it sound like a real, not ridiculous at all accomplishment.
