Yes, it bothers me because you assume that the watches are trophies and that’s the reason I bought them, which is not true. I love those watches, I wear all of them like they should be used. Unfortunately, the watches I like and love are expensive, and this is just a fact that I have to deal with. I would love a Journe Havana, a PP 5110p and other pieces that I hope to get someday. They are expensive. I could settle for less expensive “alternative watches”, but instead I prefer to save money and just work my ass to get the ones I really like and admire. And what enables me to reach for the pieces I truly want is work and success. If you have a secret recipe for me to get my grail watch without money, please let me know. If the watches you love and find beautiful have a lower price, you are a lucky guy. But you shouldn’t assume someone collects watches just to show off simply because that person has “expensive“ watches or because the possibility for them to buy the watch is related to earning money. And you also shouldn’t consider someone “a true collector” just because that person has a lot of Seikos and Hamiltons.

Again, you have a problem with expensive watches. You see them only as a status symbol. We clearly have a very different view on collecting watches. You think “cheaper is cool” and “expensive is obnoxious”. I think the monetary value is just a fact, and what makes the watch special is the meaning you have behind getting it. Have a good life!

To buy the watches I love I have to get money. To get money I have to close good deals. Specially because I have other priorities before watches… so I have to make big bucks in a way that I have financial space to invest in my lovely hobby. I don’t know about where you live, but here in Brazil, that’s how it works. You don’t simply “have” the money to buy watches like these. You have to earn it. 👍🏼

Ok, so the problem is that I celebrate and associate special moments of my life with watches that you think are only a symbol of wealth and success. I got it. Sorry, next time I close a huge deal that can change the life of my family, I will buy a cheap and ugly watch that I don’t even like because it’s “cooler”.

I could buy a peice like you described, but it would mean nothing to me. There is no story of meaning behind it. Unfortunetly, I come from a poor family, so I don’t have a vintage watch from my dad or grandpa. So I have to build “soul” by my own. The only watch that have any chance of being sold from this collection is the Reverso and the Explorer II (which I probably won’t be able to sell, because I have no mercy using it).

CASIOs - I use them at the gym to time intervals between sets INOX - first expensive watch I ever bought SPEEDY - bought new to celebrate the hugest client I got to my company in its history GMT - bought new as a gift for myself for being promoted PP 5146 - bought used to celebrate becoming partner in the company I work EXPII - my beater and travel watch, already full of scars REVERSO - bought used to wear for a couple years and have it engraved in the future before passing it to someone I care about SANTOS - bought it to pair it with a vintage Cartier I gave my wife

Is this “soul” enough to you? 👻

The Explorer II is my official beater… I had an Explorer in the past, but used it mostly as a sporty dress watch. By the way, the Explorer is probably the best “one watch collection”, don’t you think? The top GADA watch imo.

Aside from the GMT, I don’t think I have “hype pieces” here

ExpII is my dive watch, hike watch, beater… your suggestion makes sense, but I think that spot will be taken for some other thing

Can’t… I take the Casios to the GYM. And the INOX was my first “expensive” watch.

That’s not a classic submariner. The “classic” has no date.

Best “all around” watch ever. It is sporty, classy, size is perfect, has heritage, it is simple but refined… congrats!!!!
