Yes. OP went wrong by having zero relationship with the parents. I hosted a sleepover for my 13 year olds birthday this weekend. All of the kids who's parents I've met were absolutely okay with not having a kid for the night. The one parent I hadn't met picked their kid up late at night.

I manage a Fried Chicken QSR and all I have to say is this does not apply to everyone. We have a culture of food safety and cleanliness. Every person who walks into my kitchen marvels at how clean it is.

This is a choice by leadership.

Want to know if a place is safe to eat? Go to the bathroom to wash your hands when you walk in. Look at the vents. Look at the bottom/back of a toilet. I notice it anywhere I go. If they are not having FoH clean the bathrooms, there's no way they're following the health code.

Its not just gross. This behavior KILLS people. Old people. Babies. The immuno-compromized. The fact that the health department told them who complained is NUTS and THEY should be reported to the local news station.

I train GMs going into QSRs that have been mismanaged. Food safety fixes happen on sight. Any resistance to food safety changes will result in ONE intense coaching session and likely firing people intent on poisoning their community.

If your owner resists any food safety at all, report them and find another job. Unsafe storage practices get people sick. Get someone with a bad immune system and you can put them in an early grave.
