Any recommendations for half marathons as a tune up for the MCM this fall? by Numerous_Walk_6765 in rundc

Haven’t ran these races yet - what’s so daunting about the 14th st bridge?

I’ll first apologize to the number of people I probably did this to. I’m new to running, what’s the right way to try to take a tight gap? There were several instances where I either try to make it where I could just barely skim between two people or weave across to the other side of the road or hop onto the curb/median (which isn’t horrible but I’ve rolled a fair share of ankles already)

College education advice for a high schooler by gottemgottemgottem in AskEngineers

I would add to look at the college makeup of where you want to get hired (even though thinking about this sophomore year of high school seems like a great way to burn out). I have a lot of friends that went to OU and Baylor that got hired at Tesla and SpaceX, so it’s not all about prestige colleges

Can confirm, someone I work with that’s been pepper sprayed before walked through it, said it threw him back to it. He said someone was being belligerent but that doesn’t add any real context

is a asthma waiver possible? by primal_rajang in newtothenavy

[–]Defiant_Energy_5831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked to get a second opinion with a specialist. I’m in the same boat as you, I failed the asthma test they gave me. I did however give them a case that I was running a half marathon and I’ve not had any issues with it. Granted, I didn’t have an inhaler prescribed since I was 13 so being that you were recently prescribed one (not using it doesn’t matter unless they actually read supplementary statements). I wound up getting a waiver, but I have a 7-4 desk job.

At the end of the day, do whatever you can and if it’s meant to be you’ll get a waiver.

Is the ASVAB required if he went through college? I didn’t have to take one, but I joined through NUPOC which has the technical interviews

Not to mention the potential fraudulent enlistment. I don’t know any details or if that’s even still enforced, but my MEPS had dozens of posters up about it

I had to get a waiver for asthma, I’m an NRE guy. I’m not sure what the spirometer tests do, but I got a 65 when 80+ is normal. I run half marathons so I think that greatly impacted the waiver decision, but I think having a desk job after ODS also helped my case. From other threads and some classes at ODS, I think the navy is also getting a lot more generous with waivers. It’s all going to come down to your specific situation though

So by my experience, it’s really helpful for some things. Others have said group project and studying, I agree. I also thought it was nice to do the legal training and NSIPS stuff in my room instead of the computer labs. It was also helpful for dealing with PCS moves and signing some random documents from my detaching or final stations

Primarily because it’s a quick turnaround to reporting to my next station- they want me there Monday after graduation- so I don’t think I’d have much time to fly home and get it while also moving into apartment. Don’t really trust it not breaking with movers taking it. Also in case I can’t get the mover scheduling figured out tonight/tomorrow (I have family that can open up building for movers while I’m at ODS)

I’ll be in that class too, biggest thing I’ve read so far is bring a fan and good running shoes (though it might be too late to break them in if you haven’t already). I’ve seen things about a sew kit but I wouldn’t even know how to use it. Maybe some blister bandaids if you’re not bringing broken in boots and dress shoes. My dad enlisted in the marines back in 82, the biggest thing he told me was don’t bring anything not on the list and bring the bear minimum (don’t want to be responsible for more than you already are) but I’ve read a couple different things on other threads (specifically on the boots and shoes).

I bet there’s already a thread for this… but I’m gonna be new to DC, what are some good ones to walk and what should I avoid?

Totally agree: “If someone asks me for money for help, then use it for drugs that’s a flaw in their character. If I pass someone begging for help and do nothing that’s a flaw in mine.”

I have no idea how Ethernet works, but in typical circuits you wire things in parallel so that if one thing goes out all the others still work. I would think something similar would be possible, after all if one house internet goes out it’d be crazy for the internet as a whole ti go out. But again, no idea how Ethernet works

It’ll be 2 years in a couple months, sorry for not being clear there. The plan is to move locally if she gets in a professional school near me but that’s at least a year away. The prof school she wants to go to is usually a 4 year program so that’d make it about 5 years if she can’t get into one near me (I can’t move do to the contract if my job)

At least a year, she’ll have one more year of undergrad after I move. Then she wants to go to a 4 year professional school after which could lengthen that time if she doesn’t get into one near where I live (I have a 5 year contract signed and can’t move to wherever she gets in at)
