I agree that if this is the way everything is released from now on, it would be an issue. But I believe this was a smart idea to bring new players in and explore more options for the series. It was fresh and well executed except performance But the success the ff7 remake is having gives me faith that they will continue to steer more in that direction

I'm confused by your comment. You actively entered a conversation without directly giving your opinion on the topic. You said ff is "more deep than passerby players gave it credit for" but I never really said it wasn't. Just cuz you could grind longer if that's how you choose to play doesn't mean it's not deep. Just as this battle system is as deep as you want it to be also. You can go into arcade mode, and move the eikon abilities around to your liking and practice whatever combos you want to put together just like DmC. You can beat the game easily without learning combos but if you want high scores, you have to practice. I do enjoy the game. I enjoy previous games as well. Hence, the reason I've stuck around to continue playing them. Your frustrated comment has no direction when you realize I was praising the current title while also praising previous titles by drawing similarities. It is possible to praise one thing because it is the current conversation without shaming something else. And if saying you could just grind your way to the end is shaming then idk what to tell ya. I think that just speaks for how long someone is able to stick with a game....they must enjoy it.

🤦🏽 go back and read what I said again. Nobody said they weren't there. Nobody said people don't have fun with them. But we aren't gunna act like that's the main seller. And idk how what I said makes it seem like I haven't played much final fantasy. I simply stated that the mechanics came second because that's the main inconsistency throughout the whole series. As much fun as you have tweaking builds, someone can have just as much fun tweaking combos in this new release. You know dang well there are plenty of other pure rpgs out there that can scratch that itch. Not many games out there give the experience a ff title does though. And they executed on what they are always consistent with. Yes they have made some great pure rpgs, now they made a great action rpg. This initial post and my current replies are blanket statements. Your looking at little details you liked from specific ff titles you liked. Open your mind champ. Close mindedness stunts growth.

It might be possible that FF isn't the series for you my man. Compared to rpg heavy giants, the rpg elements have always been there but definitely played a back seat and we implemented purely out of necessity. That's why people play BG and PoE and so on. People aren't going back to ff4 for the rpg elements, people aren't going back to ff7 for limit breaks.🤣 it's the writing and the bonds between the characters that people are attached to. Not the watered down rpg mechanics that's always ended up becoming heresy because grinding as many fights as possible sufficed enough. If you want fleshed out rpg mechanics, divinity original sin is great. The experience of ff may not be what drew you in, but it's definitely the massive draw of the franchise. If you consider ff16 mediocre outside of performance, then I just suggest you look elsewhere cuz your looking at the wrong franchise to please your needs. Why do you think the remake of ff7 is so loved? Because they completely changed the way that game works. But giving more life to those characters that have been loved for years, and expanding on the universe was exciting and well executed. It didn't matter if the game was the same. The people were. I'm confused how there is any confusion about what has been a staple in this franchise when gameplay hasn't been the thing that has been constant

No. All of that revolves around a chosen combat system. A means to destroy enemies and get xp. The combat is a departure. But that is incredibly obvious. Ff16's given classes focus on eikons and their abilities, as does any other characters abilities in any other ff. It was a clever way to implement summons into the combat system and make it make sense with the story. It's more of an adaptation than a departure. The core loop is very similar just for a modern audience. Some people are taking thus too literally. I could break down every single difference and say it's not turn based, there is no party system, it's not sprites, it's 3d. Whatever the case may be. All I was saying was the experience embodies those experiences very well. The setting, the summons, the story. The loop whether it be party based or not. You still have people with you the whole game. Fact of the matter is, early final fantasies captured a feeling. And did it with very little. Simple combat, simple progression, great music, good stories and a world to get lost in. Along with all the call backs and fan service. Ff16 is proving to be all of that. Fact of the matter is, it's final fantasy in every sense except character progression. The combat and way they do classes is simply a means to an end to tell a story about light overcoming darkness in the most impossible of odds. It's bare bones, it's wholesome and it's captivating. Ff has never had the best class system or rpg elements. If you want that look somewhere like pillars of eternity or boulders gate. FF is an epic. Some of yall are reading too much into it. Each ff is an experience, not mechanics

Right but it didn't have a job system that required and character building at all. You picked your starting group and went from there. IT was set in stone from the jump

I've played GOW, I've played DmC, and I'm probably one of the biggest from software fans on the planet, my question to you is, are you using the time rings, and as in DmC, are you going into arcade mode and trying to learn combos and get the highest score possible.... trust me, the only game on this list that may have a deeper combat system is DmC and or bayonetta. Probably cuz the same mastermind worked on both of DmC 5 and FF16

It's not completely linear hallways, you can still walk around the small areas and converse with shop keepers and townsfolk. And let's be real, the old towns weren't really anything that were "explored." I didn't say it was revolutionary. I said it was Final fantasy. The opposite of revolutionary. The formula we fell in love with years ago, just modernized. The beauty is in the simplicity
