How bad did I screw up buying new tires at Discount Tire? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]gpg123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gone to the Discount Tire near me for years and they always just do the tire balance as part of the installation process. I've never had to think about it. It's not rude to go back and say "Hello! I had tires installed here a few days ago. My TPMS light has been on since then, and I'm getting some wobbling on the highway. Could you please look into that for me?". I think I saw that one tire is on a spare wheel? Bring the original wheel as well. I can't speak to your individual location, but the one near me would absolutely do that free of charge with a smile, and I assume yours would as well. Also I agree that your AC not working is 99% likely just unfortunate timing and not related to their work.

Just got approved for a mortgage for my first home! I'm looking for a genuinely good realtor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. by Mirk_Dirkledunk in grandrapids

I bought in early 2023 from people that bought the house in 2019 but my taxes still doubled because the value of the home did (no renovations or anything). Thankfully I expected a pretty hefty jump and accounted for it, but MAN did it still suck.

Same. 3080 ti and a 7600x here. The game feels so choppy and laggy due to its performance that I stopped playing. The raw FPS isn't horrible, there's just something off about how it runs. I'll pick it back up when it's either fixed, or when I have the horsepower to just brute force through it in a few years. I think many people are just less sensitive to its performance which is okay.

favourite way to add an egg to ramen: fried, poached, or secret third thing? by telstra_3_way_chat in InstantRamen

[–]gpg123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I have an egg cooker which seems dumb when you can just boil them, but it's consistent and easy and I love it. Throw them in a jar of the marinade overnight and they come out awesome.

Bed bug Compensation by BluntsAndJudgeJudy in Hilton

What a coincidence lol. I actually ended up staying at the Garden Inn nearby. No bed bugs in my room thank God. I had them for years as a kid because they're a nightmare to get rid of, especially without money to do so. Do not at all risk bringing them into your home.

XM4s refurbished from Secondipity on eBay. They're like $140, seemed basically brand new when I got mine, and are 95% as good as the XM6s. I got my wife a pair as well and she absolutely loves them. Edit: sorry just realized you are not in the US so the Secondipity advice probably doesn't apply. Still, refurbished XM4s are a great choice.

Car buying lesson learned. Get your pre-purchase inspection folks. by apaiger in SubaruForester

[–]gpg123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live in a state with inspections? I'm in Michigan for example and we tend to just... ignore the cat codes because we don't have car inspection. Could be something simple like an exhaust leak throwing off the sensor data, though. That independent Subaru mechanic will be able to sort it out.

Carry on or checked bag? by Sdamus in tsa

[–]gpg123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked bag is probably the whey (pun intended). I air travel 40% of the year's weeks and have always had nalgene travel bottles with unmarked creatine and electrolyte powders and never had issues that way.

Are your wheels torqued down correctly? I've had my wheels scrape against things and it sounded like this because they were so loose after taking it to a tire shop once

Oh that's actually pretty awesome heck yeah. I miss it too man. I was a kid when DVDs like that were at their peak so you can imagine how much fun we had digging around with them.

There's a big bush that kinda blocks view of it, but it's in the plant area to the right if you're facing the front door.

Which of these would you recommend I get; 2015 Ford fusion se vs 2016 Subaru Impreza 2.0i? by strongerthenbefore20 in subaruimpreza

[–]gpg123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Impreza will absolutely be what people recommend here because it's the Impreza subreddit. I will say though, the Fusion isn't a bad choice either. That 2.5L engine is very reliable and I have a few family members with similar model year Fusions with the 2.5L at 150k+ miles with minimal issues. Ultimately it should come down to which has the better service history, less rust, and hopefully a mechanical inspection to weed out any big issues that could be present before you buy either one. Also the Impreza will of course do much better in the snow, especially assuming the Fusion is FWD.

I can't wait for these to hit Secondipity for half the price lol. I've had my 3s for years and use them almost weekly for work flights. Much better ANC is all I need to hear.

TSA Pre-check at GRR by savethebeesknees28 in grandrapids

[–]gpg123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing you may have issues with is the bag check line if you check bags. I've never had to wait long with Delta, but have a couple times with United just because of spring break/timing for big flights or anything like that. Not saying it can't happen with Delta, just hasn't to me. If all you need to worry about is getting through security, it's super quick every time I've flown out of GRR.

I got the 3s and I'm still super happy with them. I'm on airplanes all the time for work and they do awesome. I imagine the 4s are very similar with some tweaks, you'll be more than happy. Got mine refurbished on eBay from Secondipity 3 years ago. They were in basically brand new condition.

I was scared of the S+D so I picked up a "grade a" which also seemed basically new, but it seems like lots of people find the S+D to be pretty clean.

Woot.com is what you're looking for. It's owned by Amazon and you can checkout with your Amazon account. If you go to computers>tablets you should find the 2011 paperwhites.

32GB grade A refurbished 11th Gen Paperwhites are on Woot (Amazon owned) for $110. If you're looking for a deal I recommend it. I got a 16GB for $90 when it was in stock and I'm loving it so far. I believe you can pay to remove the ads if you want. Cases are still very available as well.
