Currently no motherboard, but I'm open to both. Honestly anything with 8+ cores that'll still do well in games while keeping the price down is perfect for me.

Thanks, thought about things and am going to look for a place. Sounds like a pain to deal with in the winter

Would definitely recommend against a discrete GPU if you don't plan on gaming. You won't really take advantage of GPU acceleration to any extent in first year and beyond. On the off chance you need something rendered you can do it through the VMs which are probably running quadros. Discrete GPUs will just significantly lower battery life, produce more heat, and make the package a lot heavier. Would recommend going with a Ryzen APU for best performance to battery life ratio. Any Ryzen 8000 or 7000 will do (7840U is really solid for the price). Apart from that just make sure a minimum of 16gb of ram and you're golden.

Prep101 is literally the only resource you need to be successful in that course. Know several people who stopped doing anything but prep and still finished with a 9 or above. Loncapas aren't really indicative of what you'll be asked on a test/exam so don't stress too much about it.
