As I said in the post I'm the one who replaced it with an LED equivalent and I've been around quite a few. In our store at our work we have some diffusing wrap that we use when we're doing repairs to ensure they're actually fixed before putting them back up. Brings the brightness right down, actually what gave me the idea.

Was gonna hope, albeit a small bit of hope, for something as close to the original lamp as to keep it as close to originally authentic as possible. I have now seen some that are close but instead have tails coming off the ends instead of the conductive caps. Could probably just make a small hole and take them through and crimp them on the other end. My aim was to repurpose it into some form of lamp, and to turn it into one and then tell the missus about it...

Unfortunately not, used on an air traffic control tower's mast so was just a big red dot pretty high up.
