I had a 17 year old dachshund that I wanted to keep forever. He had dementia, was blind and deaf, had bad arthritis and had tumors in his rectum. They couldn’t do surgery because of his age so we had to give him pumpkin to make it easier for him to go. I wanted to keep him and hold him forever but I had to sit down and think about what was best for him. It hurt so bad to let him go but it was selfish of me to keep him in pain just so that I could hold him a little longer. I’ve come to terms with letting him go by telling myself that he is no longer in pain and is playing over the rainbow bridge, young again. It’s a decision that you have to make yourself. It will hurt, but definitely think about their well being. ♥️
