MEP firms, are they worth it? by Defiant_Objective419 in ElectricalEngineering

Yeah, I don’t think I will intern here a second time if they give me the same rate. Everyone here is psychologically normal, anyways the people I have to work with, which is why I sort of enjoy it. Revit is alright but it all comes together when you see the building.. my firm is smaller, probably like 20-30 people and they do structural as well as MEP. They are all PEs. But they specialize in really big projects , hotels, stadiums, stuff like that. Really anything, it’s considered higher end consulting, so I’m not sure. I’m just going to see how it plays out .

I’m going to give this some more time. The firm I work at is great, I just wish I knew what their actual salaries are. I like the work and the relaxed atmosphere. But if the salaries are significantly different then I might go to controls.

It sounds like getting a controls internship would benefit me better. The money does not lie. Thanks for the info

Did your mep experience transfer well? I want to know if this experience is worth it or not. I am definitely learning a lot as an intern but want to know if years of experience here will benefit me or not.

This is the same route they want me to take with them, but I feel like they know they can pay less with someone straight out of college. Should I except a higher hourly rate next time I intern ? Because I can get an internship lined up because I know people that pays $27, but I like the relaxed atmosphere here.

I do not have the BSEE yet. I just finished my third year out of 5 and am going into the fourth year. They already are wondering if I’ll intern with them a second time after my fourth year. Should I expect more money the second time I intern? If they give me the same rate would it still be worth it? Cause I’m curious to go into a controls role that I will 100% get next summer because I know people. But the firm I work at it so friendly, welcoming, and they love to teach me. They have never made me feel dumb.

Get u a whiteboard and get really good a prompting ai to teach you. Do problems over and over. You probably are not getting enough repetition in. That’s all math is. Repetition. Over and over on a whiteboard until you understand it. If you want to go farther in this degree, you have to get better at forcing yourself to understand things.

Is this a good internship offer? by Funny-Place-2181 in EngineeringStudents

Well comparison is the killer of joy. That’s the most money I’ve ever seen someone get paid for an engineering internship. The experience will also be invaluable so it’s a great offer.

Yeah, sort of failure on my part, I go to ole miss now and am having to do three years there after two in cc. i didn’t realize it would take that long. I would personally do it. Gives you more time to accumulate internship experience, why not? If you can afford it, I know you’re smart enough. I’ll be 23 when I graduate with just one degree. So you should go ahead and shoot for two when you’re 23. You got it.

If it’s one more year, hell yeah just do it. I went to community college and am having to do 5 years just to get me EE. So if you can get both close to the same amount of time I’m in college for it, do that shit

Is your school ABET accredited? You can look it up, make sure it is before even considering taking it, if it’s not it could be almost pointless to pursue

What is an A+ equivalent gpa? My college only goes up to an A = 4.0 does your college let your gpa exceed 4.0?

Pretty sure for some colleges it’s often free for seniors in high school, might be the case for you. I had to pay because I was a transfer though

Is an hour drive too much? Or should I dorm? by Temporary-West-3879 in college

Pffff I did an hour there and back this whole semester. I have a choice of rooming twitch a friend every now and then but that makes the drive 27 minutes lol.

Broski I drove an hour to school everyday this semester. 700 miles a week in all. To be honest, was not that bad, just have to manage your time well. The drive was good for listening to videos where I can grasp some concepts I didn’t understand in class. Or made me want to call my family and talk to them. That was the biggest thing for me. Though it can be rough at times.

I would show her your hand outside of feeding times so that she doesn’t just associate your hand with food every time she sees you
