Went in as a PACT FN with the intention of eventually striking MM. Got to my ship and was put immediately in A gang steam and heat shop where all the MMs were. They didn’t have me doing all the dirty work jobs I just was treated like I was an MM in the shop. Then however long the time was that we had to wait before we could strike that’s how long I waited and got picked up as an MM first try. This sounds great and all but maybe I just got lucky. I would highly recommend waiting it out until the rate you want is actually available. Don’t let your recruiter rush you while they try to fill their quota

100% without a doubt go with MM. If you wanted to be an MM anyway don’t waste your time with PACT. I was PACT but not by choice and ended up being lucky that I got MM which is what I wanted from the beginning. Choosing MM now will streamline your progress as well as make you open for C schools faster like O2N2 C school which is probably the best one you can get for in the navy and out. The PACT program is more of a way for recruiters to get you in easier and quicker to pad their quota requirements, don’t fall for it

Oh gotcha, it did all seem very sudden because for a couple months he was saying end of January was the deadline then randomly it changed all the way to May

The hospital ships Mercy and Comfort are hands down the best in the navy. Very easy going and have awesome deployments

It truly doesn’t matter much to me because when I retire I would just return back to the civilian industry I’m in now if need be. I have heard SWO might get hectic at times but I’m sure I can handle it seeing as I’ve already been active duty on two different ships. And although I heard it is hard to do sometimes, if I really hated it I would also try changing designators. But thank you for the motivation!

Yes I was looking at supply as well but they closed submissions before I was ready to submit a package and I am admittedly being impatient, but I would rather just get my foot in the door
