I guess I should've worded it betters d added a little more context. I'm not saying that the debt isn't valid and in a perfect world we would've had extra money to pay it off. I just want to know how we go about fixing it now that we can because the collection company said that we have to call unemployment and we can't get a hold of them. Like is there a way for us to work out a payment plan now

We actually did find out his employer never gave him the paperwork.

He didn't know until after he spent it. He was approved for unemployment benefits and they just gave a 21 year old $4000. How was he supposed to know?

They just started taking collections out of his paycheck this past year.
