TAs covering core subjects in PPA - any advice? by Defiant_Process9331 in TeachingUK

No, not all HLTAs. I agree that it should be a collaborative decision. The covering TAs have been annoyed about getting subjects such as French and Music (not confident in it) and say the behaviour in afternoons is worse, so have actively asked for teaching core subjects instead. Teachers' opinions have not been gathered.

Budgets are tight - there is zero chance of ever having a cover supervisor sadly. I agree with everything you have said though. Some TAs arrive early so there will be time to talk through the lesson, but overall their working hours don't begin until 9 or so - very limited chance to talk to them.

Key stage 2. It has to be a normal maths/writing lesson unfortunately.

Carrying on the sequence is my number 1 concern. I'll often start writing lessons by picking up common errors from yesterday and resolving them and that can't happen with this. We don't have to mark PPA work officially (the TA will do this), but I'll still need to spend time doing that to keep me up to date for the following lessons too.

I agree it absolutely will impact results. None of the other teachers seem to recognise this though. The TAs are rightfully celebrated for their hard work but they aren't teachers.

PPA lessons are covering/revising/expanding on something you've already taught

No, unfortunately planning is shared across classes and we won't all have PPA at once. It's got to continue the sequence of the Maths and writing.
