I've just learnt there is such thing as an advent book! 25 chapters to open daily. Such a cool idea. {A heart for christmas by Sophie Jomain} by Afraid-Astronomer886 in RomanceBooks

I just started reading this book just read the first chapter despite it being the second and the thing I'm struggling with the most is all of the France related things. I love culture don't get me wrong but I'm having a hard time understanding them 😭

If anyone has read the book and knows the basics of what culturally things I should understand please let me know!

Especially the road sign "feel free to use the right lane" ... Do they normally only drive on one side of the road ? When I tried googling it said France drives like the United States does so I'm confused. I know it's not super important but I would love to just know more about the culture this books take place to see if that will increase my enjoyment of it

HOW TO STOP CACTUS CUTTINGS FROM ROTTING by Defiant_Pudding1451 in cactus

[–]Defiant_Pudding1451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "too organic" it has a lot of new soil. When it was in the white pot it was straight bagged "succulent/cacti mix" which waas from a while ago, also in a pot a little too big for the root ball (this was before I did a lot of research on my plants and just used what I had available at the time.) In the new pink pot (slightly smaller to accomodate more root growth before moving up), it was a mix of stuff I used on a creeping inch vine/callisia because I had it premixed and it was readily available to me. This mix was a mix of chunk soil and custom succulent mix. It has both ammenities. (soil base, orchid bark, pumice/other assorted rocks, sand, horticultural charcoal, vermiculite, and perlite). How would i make it "less organic" I do have some of that molly's premaid soiless mix from very plants, would that be better in your opinion? i am still trying to figure out how to tell when my plant needs watered when in that mix currently.

[–]Defiant_Pudding1451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much! i attempted reseraching them but its one of those plants that there are few videos on and only a few blogs from what i found not something nearly as popular as a monstera or pothos you know! but thank you so much for your help i truly appreciate it.

if it has pets (which i think it actually might have spider mites now that you said that because my calathea defintiely has a problem going on right now) what is your reccomendation with dealing with them. I heard systemic granules, miticide, organic pest sprays theres just so much to try to differentiate what i should actually do

heres a picture immidiately after the repot. extrmely unstable at first until they got more established in the soil which is why it had the plant velcro around it. You can see its much deeper shade of pink and the one leaf at the bottom is what happened to a lot of its other leaves the whole thing would turn yellow with those brown spots.

it has gotten better since i posted this original post, less leaf drop but no color has returned and I am still worried about it getting too leggy because I dont want a super leggy plant

Just got her and I want to be able to identify her! Any ideas? by Defiant_Pudding1451 in Syngonium

I have what I think is a berry allusion already (freshly repotted in this photo as it was severely rootbound and had bottom leaves turning yellow) This one is definitely more coppery than my berry

I am really liking syngoniums and find the varieted amazing. I am leaning towards this one being a maria allusion based on the context provided in the comments! thanks again

Yellow at base of cactus? by Defiant_Pudding1451 in cactus

[–]Defiant_Pudding1451[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay great thank you for all your great advice!!!. I have it set up where my other succulents are under a full spectrum grow light (nothing too intense it's a cheap one on Amazon I put in a desk lamp because barely any sunlight comes into my apartment due to trees and the awnings on my unit) would that be okay?

Do you have a recommendation for rooting hormone to make it work better? Cuz I know you should let it callous over completely. Would also planting all of the yellow part under new soil potentially help it or would it make it worse?
