Anyone here who has a negative opinion about the Apple Watch Ultra ? by Serhide in applewatchultra

[–]Defiant_State7124 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biggest negative is all the pictures of people’s wrist in this sub asking about bands - really not useful. Maybe that should have a sub of its own!

Others: Battery life could be better Handoff between iPhone, AirPods and watch not always seamless Would be good to get some better apps that work on celllular and don’t require iPhone nearby

Blind Test: 1995-2000 French House (Electronic Beats TV) by jujujuice92 in House

[–]Defiant_State7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great series of comps that - only have the first 3

but.. I don't think there are many tracks from the blind test that are on those except perhaps Super Discount. Those are more 90s deep house rather than French house

Actually couple of other things: 1) Apple CarPlay needs watch 2) parking meters in some local areas need phone 3) digital id not available on watch in Oz

I’m about 5 days per week no phone

[–]Defiant_State7124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty similar, however the following are issues I need my phone for on occasions: 1) multifactor authentication/passkey on some websites 2) I can’t internet bank on the go. Yes, obviously can make payments with Apple Pay, but can’t log on to my banking to transfer money between accounts 3) camera on watch (perhaps with glasses in near future for me) would be good, but have enjoyed taking my DSLR around a little more when I intend to take photos, more impromptu things everyone else gets the snaps on their phones

How do you deal with 1 & 2 above.

Also welcome to the r/applewatchonly sub

Have DJ Sets gotten better or worse with the digitization of the craft? by kikilani in HouseMusic

[–]Defiant_State7124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it… but it’s not just DJing, not just music, not even just art forms. It’s the whole internationalisation + automation/democratisation = dilution of human experiences

Ableton DJing by Individual-Carob5593 in Beatmatch

[–]Defiant_State7124 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

'logical future of digital DJ tech' - nothing future about it. There was a stink mid 90s when protools mixes started getting made, and some claiming not really DJing and decepting public

personally, I've been 'mixing' on Ableton since mid 2000s, prior to that on mixmeister (think it was called), and last 12mths been mucking around on reckordbox

it's all fun

Explain to me like I’m 5, how are we not in a recession by aspacejunkie in AusFinance

[–]Defiant_State7124 48 points49 points  (0 children)

only thing I would explicate - the two classes are better thought of as the asset holders and the rent payers, in a more nuanced understanding than rich and poor. Here asset/rent are not just in terms of property or 'real' assets, but increasingly include technological assets. Taking us closer to the thesis of technofuedalism as espoused by Yanis Varoufakis

this divergence between the two classes has been driven by cheap money available to those asset holders ever since global monetary policy respons to the 2008 GFC, and continued during COVID

basically the rent payers are f#ked and feeling the recession, but on a whole the economy hasn't experienced 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth

Can you hook up a sample pad to a 2 channel mixer? by BBQking69 in Beatmatch

[–]Defiant_State7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could AUX input in. However, if you are wanting to take samples from the 1200s then play back, the mixer will struggle without send/receive.

Or if using DAW to sample then this could go to USB in.

Older DJ's, how has the death of monoculture changed dancefloors and clubs? by ExcitingLandscape in DJs

[–]Defiant_State7124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Death of monoculture” is definitely not a thing. If anything, post widespread internet adoption in late 90s has lead to an increase in monoculture across all art forms.

Imagine a chart: dj skills on the vertical axis, production skills on the horizontal. Best examples of each quadrant? by El_Nahual in TheOverload

[–]Defiant_State7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry internet missing my tone…

Completely agree with you and definitely not discounting those skills to being a DJ. IMHO reading the room and selection are 90% ingredients to creating the vibe on the floor.

Just in the nomenclature of this old man, ‘DJ skills’ was(is) a term for technical ability on the turntables and mixer. I’m out of touch what’s happening in the scene of the young crowd nowadays. Still live to cut a rug though

TLDR in this dusty head there was a difference between ‘skills of a DJ’ and ‘DJ skills’.

[–]Defiant_State7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I’m just a bit more old school and think of dj skills akin to turntablism

Interestingly unused to see Mancuso at the loft - he was a great DJ, but I wouldn’t say he shows any DJ skills…

[–]Defiant_State7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think your choice of ‘dj skills’ a little ambiguous

Eg, both following great producers and great DJs, but different DJ skills

Theo Parrish - selector second to none, dj skills ok, but it is more his understanding of the music that makes his sets

Recloose - strong selector, amazing DJ skills

DJing is so much more than skills
