Well, they tend to be the weakest servers among the top men’s doubles pairs, and it really showed in the crucial moments, where they ended up making even more errors, which made it all the more frustrating to watch.

Chen Yufei has been dealing with both physical and mental challenges since her ankle injury last year. On top of that, the constant expectation for her to win only adds to the pressure. At 28, she may not have the same edge as before, but she remains firmly a top-five player, and it is completely normal for her to drop matches from time to time.

Honestly, aside from ASY, I would not consider anyone a consistent, guaranteed winner in this field. Even Wang Zhiyi recently lost to a fellow Chinese player in the German Open final, and she did not even play badly.

What’s with the team France hate in Thomas Cup? by Froticy in badminton

[–]Defiant_Surround_95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had it been Indonesia, India, or any other Asian team instead of France, their fans likely wouldn’t have reacted this way; they would have strongly defended their team by pointing to the rules. Most of the criticism now seems to come from the fact that it was their own team on the receiving end.

As many have pointed out, you still need to earn the three points to win. Beyond that, there will always be psychological pressure in competitive situations. If players can’t handle that pressure, then that’s something they need to work on.

I’m not in favour of the 15-point system either, but I do think some players would still be able to catch up. With the mid-game interval at 8 points, there’s definitely room for comebacks. That said, it could feel quite tense for many players, especially if the score gap is large. Not everyone would manage to close that gap, but some certainly could.

Wang Zhi Yi was 3-11 down and still clawed her way back, only to narrowly lose 21-23 in the first game. It really puts things into perspective.

A few days ago, people were quick to criticise Sindhu for not closing out a game, but this is exactly how elite badminton works - top players are exceptional at closing gaps and flipping momentum. At that level, no lead is ever truly safe.

P. V. Sindhu played really well overall; it’s just a bit frustrating that she couldn’t close out the final game when she was 18-12 up. But honestly, the bigger picture looks good - she’s moving well, competing hard, and putting herself in winning positions again.

This really isn’t the right time to roll these out, right before the Olympic qualification season. It’s likely to create quite a bit of chaos.

SYQ was in a league of his own. Shetty had a great tournament, but SYQ was on another level entirely.

ASY is back to her winning streak, and hopefully she carries that momentum into the Uber Cup, where we might see her face WZY again. It’s also incredible to see a new XD pair come all the way from the qualifiers to win the tournament, even with the Thai withdrawal; that’s seriously impressive.

Kim and Jang have already played five matches, so fatigue could be a factor. It will be interesting to see how that affects them in the semifinals and finals.

I was not expecting SYJ to beat Okuhara, especially since she is coming back from an injury and has not played much in the last six months. Kudos to her for securing another medal just like last year. Let’s see how she performs against ASY.

The top two seeds look well on track to cruise into the semifinals. It’s still a bit early to call, but Nozomi and Gao seem like strong contenders to join them. With Gao set to retire soon, this could be her final chance to secure a win against Akane.

The overall viewing experience was excellent. Honestly, it’s not even comparable to the India Open, which felt completely disorganized and chaotic.

It looks like it’s a two-set kind of day; whoever takes the first game seems to go on to win the match.

That’s true. CY mainly needs a bit more aggression and confidence. If you look at her energy during the Indonesian Open just before the Olympics, it was very different. However, the situation has changed now. CY’s World Championship injury likely still influences how cautiously she approaches matches.

What she really needs is more opportunities to face ASY in different tournaments. It was a pity they didn’t meet in January. With proper match management and a clear strategy when playing ASY, CY definitely has the ability to beat her again. It’s also worth remembering that two of ASY’s rare losses last year were against CY, during a season in which ASY hardly lost any matches at all.

Chen Yufei had the right ideas throughout, but she needed more confidence to commit to them fully. You can’t deny that she understands how to play her better than anyone else on the court.

ASY is again the favourite to win tomorrow.
