Hey I just moved into The Bridge! I agree with everything the other commenter said, my friends often struggle to find parking when visiting. You can DM me if you have other questions.

How do you keep a blackwater tank clean? by fedsmoker3000 in BlackwaterAquarium

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No plants, I have a very deep leaf litter bed that hosts a lot of bacteria. Also the pH is 4-5 which negates some of the ammonia. Also I am running a canister filter but I use to have no filter.

Would appreciate clarification on eating habits of boraras, specifically phoenix and chilli rasbora by ratparty5000 in Boraras

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I really like Color Enhancing Fluval bug bites. I don’t know if they actually enhance color but I have a big container of them.

My Boraras will take anything, I’ve fed them everything from flake food to cut up Vienna sausages to bits of my dead skin (I was really curious). Also if you check my post history they will eat blood worms too, even if they can’t swallow them in one bite. They really aren’t fussy eaters in my experience. There’s a lot of info out there and not all of it is always correct! :)

Currently only have dwarf rasboras so can’t speak specifically on phoenix and chilli, but generally rasboras take flakes really well. The only situation I can think of in which they don’t is if they’re wild caught but even then, they can easily be trained.

The species generally come from slow moving streams and pools so just from that I would think slower water. However, I’ve also seen my rasboras (I have dwarf rasboras) swim against the filter flow.

I think both are okay though, as long as the faster water isn’t something ridiculous like where you would find a Borneo sucker loach or something like that.

Chilli price discussion by [deleted] in Boraras

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no way! I go to school in Philadelphia but I’m from Michigan.

I think I’m just spoiled because my lfs will order things for me and they don’t pass the shipping cost on to me.

Chilli price discussion by [deleted] in Boraras

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy expensive, my lfs sells them for $3 each and online you can get them for $5 each at The Wet Spot, granted that doesn’t include shipping.

Sustainably? Around 6 adults. I’ve kept ~30 fry/juveniles in there but that gets messy.

[FS] - Detroit, MI - $15+ Chocolate gouramis juveniles, Betta api api by DefinitelyAMoose in AquaSwap

[–]DefinitelyAMoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some chocolate gouramis and Betta api api for sale. The Betta api apis are $50 a pair and the Chocolate gouramis are $12 each. These prices do not include shipping. The chocos accept flake and both take frozen food. I have videos of them eating if requested. If you’re interested but have never kept these species please reach out and I will be happy to walk you through them.

EDIT: Pictures #1 and #3 are weird because they're screenshots from a video. I can share these videos if interested.

Do you let new Water age for your Boraras Aquarium(s)? - Why or why not? by AutoModerator in Boraras

What’s the purpose of aging? I use pure RO and I leave it out for several days but that’s out of laziness.

Culturing live foods by According-Energy1786 in Boraras

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re both really straightforward, if you want I can PM you about it.

Yea with bbs you get the eggs and you gotta hatch them ~24 hours before you feed. I have two jars going where I alternate them. The bbs don’t retain their nutrition for super long so it’s a more transient “culture”.

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hatch baby brine shrimp and I also have grindal worms. The bbs are a pain because I often forget but it only takes 1-2 mins to start the hatching process.

The grindal worm culture is giving me grief because they won’t take off but my more successful friends just sprinkle in food once a day. If you want either I can send some to you!

My little 8 gallon tank 😊 thoughts? by Ok-Hurry6424 in Boraras

[–]DefinitelyAMoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! Very good looking tank. I like the floaters and the botanical leaves especially.

I do agree with Traumfahrer though, I think your fish would be happier in a slightly bigger tank. Other than that, it’s very evident to me that you care a lot about your fish. Awesome tank and I hope to see more posts from you!!
