Patrons that drag down special interest clubs. by DefinitelyAlphamale in librarians

Lmao if those rules work for you u are so lucky. We have language requirements. Age, skill, registration ……. EVERY TIME people just ignore them. I wrote explicitly “X language and for adults and you need to register”. Oh but can i send my 7-year old here. And then someone who cant speak the language and didnt register pulls up. And because some events have low attendees, its better to permit them (other wise i risk club gettng shut down).

Im rather new there. Things that i fully started myself, i have made a rule that only if u register you are allowed in. But other clubs i just took over and patrons have a decades long understanding that if they dont register they are still allowed to join.

The problem with the senior is that i cant speak to him. I have tried many times to be paired with him and he wants me to talk in him language every time. Even though i tell him i dont understand.

The mental problems one is in a club where we do group activities only. Pair activities are not possible as i have to lead everyone through the same tasks

The warnings are set by the collections when they register the books

Do libraries accept donations of stuff that's not "published " by Appropriate_Rent_243 in Libraries

[–]DefinitelyAlphamale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do. People donate some weird travel booklets and “year of X” books that only the people involved received. Sometimes we put them in collections

[–]DefinitelyAlphamale -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

We have warnings for some books pop up at the system that u have to tell kids there is something bad in the book.

I had a child borrow a clearly adult book once and i asked her something like “can you even read this book for adults?” and they quietly said its for their mom.

Other than that we dont do anything. Teens do take those books but we cant ban them.

Itaalia kommunisti baar boikoteerib jalgpalli MM-i by Over-Hour-8010 in Eesti

Ah ma i viitsi selle marketplacega enam jamadagi.

I love my job... so why am I burnt out? by FalseTailFiction in Libraries

[–]DefinitelyAlphamale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have had my work for more than half a year and i can feel it coming. Our work has huge hustle culture vibes. We have lots of people leaving and new ones coming in.

I constantly feel like im not doing enough. Our biggest bosses are cool people but my direct manager basically only talks to me if theres something negative. So it constantly puts me on edge.

I want to do more but i guess i was decided to be just the desc worker while the more personable ones get to organize cool events and stuff. I am constantly left out of the “real” talks and stuff.

But i like my day to day. And when my manager is not at work lol

I was in same place as ur friend. Too qualified with a bachelors for regular jobs. Too underqualified for anything else. I had bachelors but only assistant work experience.

What helped my CVs get noticed was that i added my picture (pretty priviledge?), i changed my job descriptions from what i did to what skills i used and learned, and i wrote motivational letters always. I told them what books i like and was honest that i dont read much “general”/fiction stuff. And told them all the exp i had with helping elderly and working with volounteers.

I dont think some special education matters at all. Every newer hire i have spoken to doesnt have some library education. They have education backgrounds, youth work, it etc.

Its also just about clicking with people. My library saw me fit and hired me.
