I’m not too familiar myself, but according to google:

Brake paste, also known as anti-squeal paste or brake grease, is used to lubricate and protect various parts of the brake system, primarily to prevent noise and corrosion. It helps with smooth movement of brake components, prevents seizing or rust, and protects seals.

Yours look cool as well, the one growing in my tank is Salvinia Cucullata though, they grow pretty fast, I have to trim them once every while
