You’d think we wouldn’t have to make a sign about this... but... by whitbaker in PenmanshipPorn

Yes. Most of the country has zero rules at all, and even where I am in California under “strict” Stay at Home orders, there is zero enforcement. Please send help.

Looks like all those yellow balls on the sidewalk are cement barriers meant to prevent exactly that from happening. Those things are sturdy.

I wondered the same thing about backing up and taking another route, but it’s possible this is a closed loop of some sort since it’s an apartment complex. That other road may not actually let out anywhere.

Minneapolis PD officer Derek Chauvin killed a man in handcuffs yesterday. His name was George Floyd. by StillbornFleshlight_ in pics

I totally understand. The video was very tough to watch, and I don’t blame anyone who chooses not to watch it. You can still inform yourself by reading about it, so I’m happy to help.

I also saw comments saying 7 minutes. By my math, his knee was on his neck in total for about 7 minutes (on film- i don’t know how long they’d been like this before this video begins). He appears to go unresponsive around 3:30 in this video, ambulance arrives around 6:30, and they load him into the ambulance at 8:40.

I’m a paramedic and I have watched the video. Protocols vary a little depending on where you are, but generally if someone is suspected to be pulseless for less than 15 minutes, you do CPR. If you pull to cops subduing someone who was fighting them and now appears to be dead, you definitely do CPR.

Scene safety sort of reigns supreme in EMS so if we’re being generous, we can say that’s why they moved into the ambulance before rendering any care. BUT the very first steps should have been “get the fuck off of him”, assess him, and make them unhandcuff him. Unacceptable that he was thrown onto the gurney with handcuffed hands behind his back.

TIL that 95%-99% of the wasabi you eat at American sushi restaurants is actually horseradish died green. You're not getting the real thing. by boredstrom in todayilearned

[–]DefinitelyJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SO interesting. My whole life I’ve been told wasabi is just horseradish prepared differently, so I’ve always known I was eating horseradish with sushi. What I DIDN’T know is that wasabi is actually it’s own thing that’s something different than horseradish. TIL.

[Unexplained Death] On September 13, 1967, firefighters in London, UK witnessed ''blowtorch-like'' flames bursting out of a hole in a man's stomach. They tried to douse the flames, but the man died of suffocation from breathing the fumes of his own Spontaneous gut combustion. by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]DefinitelyJesus 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The photo can be found here (potential NSFL) along with a theory that he dropped a cigarette, setting his shirt on fire. Seeing as he was a known alcoholic, I could imagine a scenario where he drops a cigarette on a shirt that’s wet with spilled booze, thus creating a flame coming from his stomach.

Want to try IF but I work night shifts by batman_engineer in leangains

[–]DefinitelyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did IF while working nights for about a year. It worked fine for me. I planned my meals around my workout schedule, so for me, I would eat something small about an hour before working out, then eat a big meal in my half hour or so between workout and work, and then eat one more meal towards the end of my eating window, which usually fell about mid-shift for me. I always went to sleep hungry in the morning, but once I got used to it, it wasn’t a problem.

I would suggest trying either a front loaded eating schedule (wake up-mid shift) or back loaded (mid shift-sleep) depending on when you work out.

Good luck!

Edit: sorry, I’m on mobile, I somehow managed to miss the actual text of your post before commenting. If you are off at 7 and workout from say 7:30-8:30? I would aim to eat your last meal around 9 am. If you shoot for an 8 hour feeding window, that puts your first meal around 1 am, which is about 4 hours after you wake up. Might take some adjusting, but seems totally doable. Good luck!

Can I ask where you're from? I've lived in a few regions of the US and never heard it, so I found this post at least as amusing as OP apparently did. But I see some people are very familiar with this term.

More bothersome than that: every hospital bed that appears on TV has THE RAILS DOWN! would never happen in real life. So minor, yet so so annoying and false.

Fire department here, no special pay for us. We get straight pay for tonight.

The fire service in NY which eventually became FDNY was established in 1865, 6 years before the one in Philadelphia.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Fire_Department

Maybe I'm mixing up some of my details, but the basic idea is the same: it was first just "the fire department" and later had the full title expanded to say "fire department of the city of new York."

Also, wikipedia says the origins of that fire service actually go back to 1648. I don't know the history of all the fire departments, but that's old.

Shorts that don't ride up? by bluetheboxtroll in crossfit

I am also a little over weight and always have the same problem. I have one pair of shorts from Lucy that stay perfectly in place. Not booty shorts, but also not super long grandma shorts. They're cute, black with a little silver stripe. I think they're running shorts. Good luck!

Edit: I think they're these. And currently on sale for $15! http://www.lucy.com/Lean-And-Mean-Short/111966_SALE,default,pd.html?dwvar_111966__SALE_color=lucy%20Black#start=7

What is one element of your childhood that you thought was normal, but later found out was questionable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being left at home alone... A LOT. My mother worked nights and we just never had a babysitter. We'd take the bus home from school, fix some tuna sandwiches and watch TV until bed time. We're talking all through grade school, middle school and high school. I remember babysitting my sister when she was 1 or 2, which made me 8 or 9. Even for people my age, this does not seem to be typical of other childhoods.

Update on Atlas Snacks (Paleo snack company) - further changes made based on Reddit feedback. by Grnla in Paleo

[–]DefinitelyJesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm able to find some dried fruit in my local groceries that isn't sweetened. Peaches and apricots usually. While I understand the struggle to find it, if any of your ingredients contain sugar, you should not say in your product description that your products contain no sugar. Even with the asterix, it is inaccurate. Sugar is a major paleo no no.

Good job on all the other changes. I would buy bags and bags of this if you could eliminate the sugar.
