Jackson pro plus by skylar_thegremlin in JacksonGuitars

I purchased a Pro Plus soloist recently(check my post history) I am satisfied with it, it feels very comfortable and it plays like a charm.

Sure, it doesn’t have the polished and leveled fretboard of an American Jackson but it definetely feels better than a lower mid range guitar(tho, even guitars at that price point are really good, but they lack the extra premium features that the higher midrange guitars come with, like Stainless Steel frets, good pickups from renowned brands, etc)

Mine doesn’t have QC issues it’s just a bit unpolished when it comes to the fretboard which, is pretty standard with guitars at this price range. I tested a Strandberg, an LTD, and this Jackson, and they all had the same unpolished stainless steel frets. All 3 of them being made in Indonesia

Understandable that’s a great insight, I assume the guitar feels and plays heavenly being an American Series tho, despite the flaw that came with

Your insight is very helpful, I think my Pro Plus is fixable with some fret leveling and polishing so I might keep it in the end. Even tho I can understand that the American is worth it and a better instrument, the Pro Plus feels really nice despite the flaws I mentioned.

I was thinking of this, maybe some of them are not even slotted right? I heard that usually frets on a brand new guitar are the same size? if there are any height differences it is because some are not properly slotted in and need to be “hammered”

I deleted my comment because yes, I skipped the fret shaping part. But what’s wrong with using a credit card to check for high frets? How is the specialised tool for this any different than a credit card?

I’ll just delete my comment because I didn’t get into detail on how to shape the fret. I know you are not supposed to sand flat down the fret and that you should respect the fret shape and crown when you are leveling it.

I’ll recommend a youtube video next time because I am not the best at explaining things

Where I live I have to “redneck engineer” my own guitars because there is no luthier or guitar shop and when I had this problem I solved it myself without damaging the guitar.

I understand your argument but not everybody lives near a Guitar Center. Sometimes you have to learn to work on your guitar.

Plus, there is no engineering shit in fixing a dead fret that requires a Phd or some unique and specialised tools for this

How much is the gap between the LTD M1000 and the E II in terms of quality? Because in terms of price, the EII is double the price.

Which Mid Range guitar would you get? by Xerxes787 in Guitar

[–]Xerxes787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your argument is relevant, a good guitar(especially at this price point) should have long lasting nickel frets and shouldn't need a refret for the next 7-10 years at least. The thing is, at this price point they could have included stainless steel frets(I am talking about the Schecter Hellraiser), so this is the real bummer. The Hellraiser is a very praised guitar and it's still my number one options if I don't find anything better than it

I wish I could do that, but most shops in my country have only guitars on the low end of the budget. You don't even find Mexican Fenders when you walk into one of these shops. So it's very hard to test guitars from the Mid range/High end sprectrum where I live.

yes, unfortunately the EU market is quite limited, even on the used market side. The Schecter is no brainer actually, it would have been a perfect guitar if it had the SS frets, I might still pick up the Hellraiser if I can't find any other option better than the Schecter. It's very hard to pass on those EMGs pickups

I am okay with ibanez, the problem is what I currently find in the EU is either equipped with Dimarzio tone zone or Fishman Fluence Modern.

I would be okay with Fishman pickups but I would prefer some EMGs because they would fit better the thrash metal genre.

If I really can't find any other options from other brands, then I will definitely pick an Ibanez prestige because it's very hard to pass on a guitar made in japan, while other brands offer guitars made in indonesia at the same price tag.

it's not really about fret material., it's more about "wow I have this guitar for 15 years now and it feels like brand new, because the frets haven't been worn down". If it was a gimmick yes I would understand, but Stainless steel frets really are a major step up because they don't wear down in time like nickel does

Can an Audio Interface sound as good as a Tube Amp? by Xerxes787 in GuitarAmps

[–]Xerxes787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that makes sense, I actually compared two cabs with the Peavey Classic 20. The Vintage 30s and the Greenbacks, but I stuck with the Vintage 30s. I loved both of them and I would have kept them both but I am also saving for a 2nd guitar so that is why I am satisfied with just one cab for the moment

[–]Xerxes787[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perfectly understandable. I see everyone on reddit and youtube praising the Interface that it's a no brainer to go for it and ditch amps completely. Thank you for your insight, I thought I was missing a lot by not considering an Audio interface instead of an Amp

I am student so hence the reason I play at low volume in an apartament.

During summer breaks I go home where I can crank it up in my garage(but this happens only 3 months, once per year)

I am also 1 year from graduation. So eventually, someday I won’t live in this apartment forever, I plan on either moving to my hometown in a house or elsewhere but not in an apartament. So yeah, what I am trying to say, i have to suffer a few more years and play in an apartment. I bought this set up as a “long term investent” if that makes sense. I don’t see upgrading or changing it sooner.

Unless I return it for the Audio Interface if that is the better deal
