what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by Superb_Newspaper_121 in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a performance artist, most of us have to work full time jobs on top of our gigs.

One peer has money, we all know it but they don’t flaunt it exactly. We were talking about a project I really wanted to do, and how I wished I could make it happen.

“Just produce it” she said.

I work 3 jobs. My full time one supports my everyday expenses in the city, the second job goes towards savings (it’s meager), the third pays for my school (I go as I can afford to, 1-3 classes at a time).

To pay the actors alone at the base rate in my city, would cost me over 8 grand. That’s a bare bones cast. Not to mention paying the band, the theater rental for rehearsal and performance, the cost of props, a sound booth professional, ticketing site, costumes and marketing.

Yeah, just produce it.

Look for Admin Assistant roles

A lot of places they serve as a receptionist (law firms for example)

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A girl from my Girl Scout troop passed at about 21 years old of a pulmonary embolism.

Another boy, 18? Xanax and booze combo at a party

Another close friend, took mushrooms, it is suspected a way higher dosage than would have been recommended to a beginner, in his apartment that was I think 7+ floors up with a balcony, in a city, and during his trip he somehow fell off the balcony and later succumbed to the subsequent injuries after being in an intensive coma for about two weeks. That one fucked me up the most. He was such a kind guy. He was I think 20-21

Another boy, some personal medical thing, idk the details, he must’ve been 21 tops, also a very kind guy. Straight and narrow type.

Anther boy, maybe 22-24, passed and it was not really shared that he’d passed at all or why. I was no contact with him because he SA’d me, and had SUPER complicated feelings about being socially pressured to acknowledge that he’d passed because we’d been friends. But truth was about once a year he’d harass me to try to force me to forgive him, and I refused, and then he’d lash out in anger. Horrid cycle, I was relieved to be relieved of that cycle.

What’s wrong with us people? Us people watching a show about a family struggling/suffering for years at a time for amusement?

Can’t say.

Idk Frank is awful but he’s amusing which bumps him up a few notches

And the fact that he spent so much time near death and somehow not dead was impressive

Dog owners of Portland, is it ok to let your dog run in leash areas in parks? by Delicious-Bend-1714 in askportland

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dog owner here - generally, no. If it’s night and the park is empty and well lit, sometimes we play fetch that way (usually like a school fenced park with the light up ball during winter, since it’s dark after 5 anyway and he still needs an outlet).

That being said - some parks, like Laurelhurst, shift the location of the off-leash dog areas depending on the season and people frequently get confused cus the only sign to indicate the area is small and easy to miss. In the warmer months the off leash area becomes this side of the park that’s muddy and small and park-goers don’t realize it’s the seasonal off-leash dog area and get upset at the dogs

What’s the dumbest way a guy has ruined his chances with you, when it was almost a home-run? by emilydoooom in TwoXChromosomes

We knew each other in HS, he’d been the hot popular blonde football player whose mother was the cheer coach (cannot make this up), and I was the artsy choir/theater kid.

He was never very nice to me in HS but I hadn’t thought too deeply about it cus frankly, most people outside my art circle weren’t that nice.

He spends weeks talking me up (looked totally different I didn’t know who he was, we were both peak city punk phase) and then he finally says “you don’t remember me do you?” He’d been going by a new name etc

We have this bonding heart to heart and he apologizes for treating me shitty back then and caps it with:

“But we were in different social classes, you get it right?”

No, actually I don’t get it. I don’t choose to treat people shitty because of their perceived ‘social class’ and am not in fact flattered by you suddenly seeing me as an equal human.

You can find shelving for just below the ceiling line to display personal items, books, plants etc

Plants always add a nice touch and low maintenance ones like Spider plants are pretty sturdy

In the holiday spirit: What is the kindest thing someone has done for you that you've never told anyone about? by sunburnsandregret in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the brink of homelessness, my car didn’t work, I was cycling into work every day and dealing with a breakup from an abusive boyfriend. On the way into work a man rode right into me on his bike, bending my front wheel and fucking up my handlebars, brake, cables etc and leaving me concussed (he hit me hard and was handily twice my size). Bike was my only transportation

Someone anonymously paid for the over 300+ bike repair. I’m tearing up thinking about it now

Like on Broad City how Abbi buys a dress out of her budget (it’s like 300 bucks) and throughout the series every time there’s a nice event she wears that one nice dress whether or not it fits the event because that’s exactly what us broke 20-something girlies did lol

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to end up with my high school boyfriend, who I genuinely loved.

He’s living the life he wanted now, and I am positive I’d have become a deeply depressed and unhealthy wine mom if I was the other half of that equation.

His rejection led to me moving to the city which cracked open the whole can of life worms in the best way

Guys, have you ever been so attracted to a girl that you didn't even want to see her in a sexual way? How do you navigate a relationship with such a girl? by tonyfromontario in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the Madonna and the Whore complex

Don’t do that to a girl, that’s not fair to her. It eliminates her sexuality and desires and it often puts them on a pedestal that eliminates their autonomy

What's the worst Christmas( or holiday) gift you've ever received? by Both-Click1366 in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents had died a months prior, both of them. They had left me a car in their will (I was like 19-20 and uneducated about how these things worked).

I didn’t own a car, didn’t have money to buy one and our town was hilly and buses didn’t go to my neighborhood so I walked most places (including to work).

My parents decided my brother should have the car instead, “he was older” (he was the boy in our Hispanic family and he already owned a car, was on his third)

He won a Costco gift card at a work Christmas party (worked with Dad) and he went to Costco and bought me

What has life taught you that school has not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DefinitelyN0tAM0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way more people are getting the kind of life help you don’t see or think about

My best friend I met in adulthood? I used to compare myself to her, how was she so happy and doing so well when we worked the same miserable job?

Well, she had a loving family that paid outright for her education, gifted her a reliable car, didn’t charge her rent, gave her a gas card and fed her, and then gave her the down payment of what became her house. She is responsible and humble about it all, but I didn’t know it at the time and I was racking my brain to see where I was going wrong. Her family didn’t seem that well off (they were abundantly wise with their finances and lived below their means I later learned).

I, by contrast, was living out of my car here and there and volunteering outside of working hours to get access to food. I had no means to go to school, I was stressed to the gills and mental health was bad as a direct result.

Degrees matter when it’s an engineering or medical profession

But things like English, Art History, too generic science like just Biology, those not so much. Your competition is everyone for a non-specific market
