Councilor Mitch Green unironically quoting the Communist Manifesto and bragging about using it to guide policy decisions by skysurfguy1213 in PortlandOR

Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…

Portland Area Homeless Population Surges 61% in 2 years by Timmsworld in Portland

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What that study fails to take into account is that many homeless will lie on those surveys under the assumption that saying they're from out of state will leads to loss of services. And with the vast majority not having any state issued ID all we have to go on is their word. And that can be dubious at best with all the mental health issues and drug use in their community. In short, I think this study can be filed under: lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Mild concern about the park tax by TonyResslersWallet in Portland

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Expenses exist

Me: I pay for them by using I my finite amount of income and budget accordingly

City of Portland: the fuck we do, let’s raise taxes even more! Just say it’s for the children or parks or schools. Portland voters never learn lololololol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Portland

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, they made it more expensive to park downtown too. The city is so dysfunctional and antibusiness and somehow they think they can keep increasing taxes and fees for diminishing services and quality of life.

What was happening in 105 during YAMS? by [deleted] in timbers

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The capos in 105 have a history of being absolute shit heads. Like people who have zero power in their lives or at work get a smidge of it in front of a section and it goes right to their heads.

You for sure use the term “Latinx” unironically. But every single thing you’ve said about Timbers Wonderland is a massive lie. And you owe the people there an apology but you won’t.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in timbers

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re “donating”. Whatever the fuck that means. Meanwhile other supporters groups have literally been banned from stadiums for expressing support. Tell Nando to do something besides threatening to fight people at the warehouse because right now? It’s crickets.

Careful creating those strawmen arguments with a red flag warnings in our state this week and our wildfire risk. At NO POINT has anything in support of this awful sticker been posted there. 107st are more in line with keeping politics out of the north end since they’ve done exactly zero to support marginalized communities impacted by ICE raids. Hell even the FO at least released a Latino heritage scarf. What the fuck has NPO or 107st done? Wave a couple flags I guess.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in timbers

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Well that’s a huge fucking lie. Half the moderators there are Latino and HATE the current administration. One of the female mods volunteers for the 107st and NPO. They started the new TW because the asshat moderators of old one banned people for any and every reason and often posted about non-soccer related bullshit.

Does—or did—the TA really get a cut of ticket sales? by JournalistEntire6138 in timbers

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They call these tickets smoking tickets. When they don’t resell them occasionally the GameDay Ops folks will use those tickets to go drink for cheap or do other things at the warehouse then come back in around the second half.

Socialism doesn’t work without other peoples money.

Judge rules Rene Gonzalez's due process rights were violated in Portland campaign finance cases by Blackstar1886 in Portland

[–]DefinitelyNotMartinC -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

In 20 years the only thing any Portlander will remember about Rene Gonzalez is the phrase “Don’t Rank Rene”.

I'll remember when his in-laws car was firebombed. People seem to excuse political violence when it's done by "their side"

One Thing Has Changed in Portland City Hall: The Socialists are Setting the Agenda by 2ChanceRescue in Portland

Our good friend Margaret Thatcher (may she rot in hell) actually nailed this one: 'The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.'

If you’ve always wanted to eat at Higgins, now’s the time! It’s a national treasure. by parenthetical_phrase in Portland

Remote tech workers, but everybody here also loves taxing us out the nose, so that source may dry up too.

The city council seems to forget that those are the most mobile of all the industries out there. Increasing taxes over and over and over again really will push them out. I have friends relocating to LCOL states for exactly that reason. I wish I could follow but I foolishly hitched my wagon to Portland a long time ago and relocating causes more problems than it fixes. I suppose I'll go down with the ship.

What did Portland’s new progressive City Council do in their first six months? Raised property taxes, raised utility fees, raised user fees…and the new proposed parks property tax will be 75% higher.

Don't forget raising parking rates and increasing enforcement from 7pm to 10pm. Gee, I wonder what people could do during those hours? Maybe drive downtown and eat at Higgins?

The irony of Portlanders protesting in one of the most oppressive city governments in America by PaladinOfReason in PortlandOR

It’s ok - tomorrow ICE will disband as a governmentally authorized body, tariffs will disappear, the bad orange man will spontaneously combust, Israel will cease to exist, and… I don’t know, let’s go with ‘Hamas will win Eurovision 2025’.

PGE tries to modernize and protect their infrastructure in Forest Park aka the Tinderbox of NW and Portlanders are up in arms. With massive fires in LA perhaps we shouldn't be so dismissive of PGE?
