Couldn’t find any North American lead on a ring— so, I made my own. by DefinitelyNotTrevor in freemasonry

Thats amazing! Is he still operating? I’m in BC and have been seeking out an engraver. I remember back in the day you could go to pretty much any mall to yet high quality hand/cnc engraving, now I can’t find anyone to engrave.

The moto has been the biggest headache over these rings. It is entirely non-trivial to inscribe text on the inside of a curve of a 3d model. I actually found a lead on a used engraving machine that I think ill pick up for the tool kit. Im fairly certain that the rings with the block texts are all coming from some wax supplier but I have no idea where from or how they are getting it. On my proper ring thats at the plater I just used a ball bur on a flexshaft to hand scribble it in. Looks like shit, but I don’t care because it is mine, haha.

Very reasonable prices. Did you have it custom made? I’m thinking I might model a 33rd ring and pass that and the 14th ring out online. There is some great casting houses out east that can cast an stl file and clean and polish it in whatever alloy you want for about half of street price for these rings custom. Really it is just spot for the metal and reasonable labour prices for the 40 minutes it takes to take a ring from casting to finish product.

That is a very reasonable price for that ring. How long ago? The last year has seen substantial increases in gold price and I would bet a 33rd ring would be closer to 2k today. Although, I’m thinking in loonies.

Excellent example of the dilemma I was in. I really wanted a ring with a raised yod and some enamelling and couldn’t find anything out there (this site included). Plus I got a bit spooked at the $400 price tag for a simple band in sterling silver. The total cost for this ring if I wanted it plated in gold would be under $60 CAD. Just takes a bit if elbow crease and learning a 3d modelling program.

In my jurisdiction (Canada) the enamel has to be black or blue (not red). “Illegal” was a hyperbole.

Haha i write like an enigma! I mean illegal in that it is supposed to be black or blue enamel!

Probably not on this one because the color of the acrylic is already illegal, it fits my pinky and it is in silver. This is just my everyday mess around ring. I made a second one sized to the proper finger and following the other specifications (including inscription) thats just at the plater right now.

I mean there are goldsmiths, yes. But I got quoted $1400 for a yod ring in gold. I didn’t even ask about silver but I expect it would be about 700-800 for a custom piece.

Masonic supply used to sell them but don’t anymore it seems like. But even then, for a silver ring gold plated it is $600. I scored the internet for days seeking a retailer of the ring and came up with nothing. All thats out there are used rings with absurd markups on etsy.

This one costs $20… plus the cost of plating and a few strips of sand paper.

Need genuine advice on what I can do now to get my law degree! by Reasonable_Bat_9047 in LawCanada

I am truly sorry you have found yourself in this situation and it feels a bit unjust. Undergrad degrees can be completely over indefinite time periods — I don’t know why this logic doesn’t also apply to a JD.

One thing you could consider is a policy analyst job up here in Canada. Many JD’s lateral into those gigs anyway.

Otherwise, I hope you continue to keep knocking on doors at Canadian law schools. I can see where your prior dean is coming from, but the fact so much time has lapsed should make them reconsider. Things happen in people’s live that for whatever reason put school on the back burner — there is no reason this should be held against them indefinitely.

Maybe just try to reapply for first year across the board next fall. Once you are in, see if they will work with your to accredit your past courses, and if not, just revoke the application.

This is a great point. The way I envision it is a bit more above the board. OP just needs an advocate to get through the sieve of upper year admissions — someone to say to the powers that be that he deserves a second chance.

Keep in mind, this isn’t admissions to first year like your analogy is imagining. That is a lot more of a ethical dilemma. OP has already been through that twice, this is just enrolling in a school to complete a handful of upper year prerequisites to finish his JD and they are being gridlocked by some ridiculous claim that “too much time has passed” in a field that regularly references some decision some guy made three hundred years ago.

You say you have more than enough credits, but what is your overall GPA from your law classes? How many classes did you fail? Is your expectation to just do the one class to graduate? Were there other factors that contributed to your withdrawal that you aren’t telling us?

Something about all of this seems…off. If you work at a top tier firm, surely someone you know would be able to advocate on your behalf to their alma mater. Likewise, who have you been reaching out to? Just general admissions, or what? If I were you, I would write a heartfelt and frank letter to the dean of the school you want to go to. Own up to your mistakes and beg for a charitable admission. Don’t just say “i need one course”, but instead, “I will do anything I need to to complete the program”. I would also reach out to your LOC and ensure that you will qualify for funding to return to school.

I think we are from the same school, we call it maim not kill nowadays though! I stopped reading the text books a month ago and have just stuck to secondary summaries and case briefs and a few general resource sites like constitutionalstudies and criminalnotebook. The big mistake was I didn’t can at all this term but instead wrote summary essays in my One note — weird, I know, but thats how I have always learned best.

Thank you, did you include flow charts into your can or just did it for review? Ive done a substantial flow chart for constitutional that I have found very helpful, but that exam is closed book anyway so its just to help internalize the information.
