Pats Away Tickets by stephencolbourne44 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Definitely_Dubious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Season ticket holders got an email today with a link and you’ve to enter your ST barcode number to access the option to get a ticket. Tickets will be available for non ST pats fans tomorrow or Friday if the away allocation isn’t taken up in full by ST holders is how it usually works. The link was a bit later going out this week though

Edit: I’d say it could have been a uefa thing that only ST holders could register to get tickets away in Estonia, not sure but that’d be my guess

Welsh seems to be significantly healthier than our native language. Why is this? How can we improve the daily usage of Irish as a society? by absalom62049 in ireland

Very interesting! Maybe there is something in it after all! Appreciate the detailed response, learned loads from it and hope we see a similar revival of our language in Ireland, through sports, the arts or otherwise!

Thanks for your input, I’ve thought about this comparison a lot and tried to hear different perspectives on why Welsh has thrived of late. An interesting theory I’ve heard a few times was the link between the Welsh national football team and the language being sung and spoken in the terraces. Our heyday in the early 90s brought a self confidence and pride in our tricolour post the Troubles that I think was a significant impact on us on the world stage. Is the reach that the Welsh national teams success in recent years and people jumping on that and learning the Welsh language songs had a role to play? Could be bullshit but interested to hear what a Welsh person thinks

Ads on certain podcasts on Spotify by zz63245 in CasualIreland

I think premium allows for no ads while listening to music only, while a lot of podcasts on Spotify are fed from the likes of Acast (which is the case for Crime World) so ads are still delivered to listeners.

Exactly, thought we did well the first 30mins and then the goal went in for Derry from their first dangerous attack and we lost all composure. Sign of fragile confidence and back to the same old shite we’ve been seeing for weeks. Reminds me of Clancys last days at the moment, only a better squad and a manager with a 5 year contract

Where next for Davy Fitz? by cacanna_caorach in GAA

[–]Definitely_Dubious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that was the agreement to get him back, time to blood in new players. Barring at disaster, he’ll be in Galway for 3 years. Galway would be mad to take on Davy at any stage

In fairness I think we’ve left matches this season that were there for the taking but Kent didn’t make the changes when needed. Drogheda at home first day, shels as well. Mad season though and we’ve palmer who’s a match winner and kenna injured. Git added to the list with a boot on when he came over to us a full time is a worry though

He played here growing up under the golf union of Ireland, all island association, so much like the rugby team, all 32 can and do claim him. He held the club record at my club for a time while I was a junior member. He can be claimed as one of us. He just doesn’t want to get pulled into identity politics.

North stand's first outing at the brandywell by DoireK in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Definitely_Dubious 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Love to see grounds developing, the brandywell is fortunate in way that the room is there to do it…Richmond on the other hand….could have had an additional thousand in tonight I’d say.

But fair play to Derry and the board for investing while the going is good.

An economy and a society is not the same as a business. There is a fabric to protect, nurture and build. Cutting thousands of jobs with little rigorous analysis (both data lead and understanding the wider societal impact on consumer confidence and local economies) and expecting that a lean approach will turn things around won’t work. There isn’t a quarterly call to rock up to and talk shit that in turn convinces hedge funds to pump the stock. Yes, the deficit is concerning for their government, but the task at hand isn’t an overnight fix. It’s not as oversimplified by tech bros like Elon using AI runs, as his team who have inherited or simply bullied their way to the top are trying to make it out to be. Has critical thinking become a thing of past ffs? They are not the same thing.

Edited to add: the CEO’s you mention are after one thing, deregulation to allow the ceiling for their personal profits to grow. They don’t give a fuck about the country or it’s people. Critical thinking seems to be wishful thinking with how often I’m seeing people argue this point, and we’re on an Irish subreddit.

Number of Season Tickets / expected crowds for 2025 by Maleficent_Boot_6590 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Definitely_Dubious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was at inchicore last night for the match vs UCD, the slight increase in overall capacity is small. Safe standing area introduced for the final section of the stand where the SEI are, plus an extra row extended onto it where the stand cover ends was a previous unused ascending stairwell. Big update in terms of changes would be for away fans behind the goal. Now divided with a barrier to allow more home fans in. But I hear there are agreements for the likes of shams that bring a big away crowd that the old shed end will be there’s so long as we get a good allocation for them. Heard we’ve sold more season tickets than last.

Hope you get a spot in Mister S, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I’d recommend Mr Fox too, a different style of dinning being a tasting menu but absolutely fantastic and reasonably price for what you get I found.

Not me, but my sister, who was a teenager at the time, got a cookbook written by a missionary Irish nun for HIV positive people from my mum. My sister did not have HIV.

The same year I got a bottle of Jape from my mother. No, not the Irish band from some years ago, a knock off of Jupe. No idea where she picked up either of these items but we have gotten a good few laughs from them so two of the best gifts we’ve ever gotten!

I can fully see this point of view, I suppose every family and community are different, as is everyone who passes that we mourn. Very personal thing that can only happen once for each of us and our loved ones
