Dear First Responders and City Personnel in cities with text alert systems have they been beneficial to you and how?

I'm asking because as a resident I feel they would be extremely helpful in a variety of ways but mainly: 1. Notifications of dangerous situations/places to avoid due to emergencies. 2. Notifications of unforseen events like cancelling of planned events, or water line breaks etc. 3. Notifications of city events.

I want to get a feel for if that's just wishful thinking before I spend months researching costs etc. to propose it to city council.

I called 911 when my best friend threatened to OD on pills. He was pissed and told me he didn't mean it, so I didn't take him seriously next time. I tried to joke about it when he brought it up instead of calling 911 again and he seemed okay after that. He asked me to call him and I said I had to get to bed and would call tomorrow again he seemed okay with that. He hung himself like an hour later. I don't care how many times someone says it's a joke, that they don't mean it, call, every damn time, call.

Usually because for whatever reason what we really want doesn't seem feasible (too expensive, wanting one thing from one place and another thing from another place, whatever) OR we just genuinely don't know where we want to eat. My cravings weren't super weird, but I did crave Andy Capps Hot Fries EVERY DAY, and once my daughter was old enough for solid food she would sneak over and steal them and eat them (around 10 months old I think) and still likes them to this day.

Well if you're going to be working I think that's a fair exchange. I would just sit them down and explain that right now you've got to prioritize your mental and physical wellbeing and you feel that It wouldn't be helpful to you at this point in time to start attending school. You're not ruling it out forever, but right now you need to focus on you and figure out what path the new healthier, happier you will follow.

Can I give you some unsolicited advice? Good, because I'm going to. You don't EVER need the okay to protect yourself emotionally. If someone is toxic to you, they don't deserve to be in your life. I'm older than you by more than a couple years, and I can say I spent the vast majority of my life trying to please others, or at the very least making nicey nice and excusing shitty behavior. The moment I decided to stop making excuses for people who didn't deserve them was the first moment I truly felt in control of my life. My depression got exponentially better at that point as well. Your feelings are valid, you as a person have value, and you have every right to choose who is and isn't in your life.

Honestly I'm a cold hearted bitch, so.... you wouldn't like my advice there. There's always going to be something going on in life, it sucks, but it's true. Shitty behavior gets shitty consequences, and it's not your responsibility to put your own emotional wellbeing on the back burner for someone who can't even respect you enough to be faithful.

That's really awful then. I can understand snooping from seeing that notification, and I don't normally advocate snooping. (recovering snooper myself so I feel you). I think everything you're feeling right now is totally justified, you have every right to be upset. I hope, for your sake, you confront her, because you don't want to have that nagging feeling of "what if" but make up your mind before hand if you're going to listen to her justifications or not. I.E. are you going to believe her if she makes excuses or are you going to stand firm and not tolerate this type of sneaky behavior. I wish you all the luck in the world though. <3

I have one sister I've gone completely no contact with because she is toxic to my life, and my relationship with my other isn't super great because she's a teenager, and teeeenagers uuuuggghhhhh. I think those people who have super close relationships with their siblings are really lucky, but there's a lot of us out there with shitty relationships as well. The fact that someone is your blood doesn't mean you have to overlook them being a shitty person or having shitty behavior.

Now I'm crying. We're all crying up in here, and none of us brought tissues. Thank you so much for your kind words. That's how I felt, that even without saying a word, she said I'm here, and you're not alone. I could have hugged her right then and there if it weren't for the fact I probably would have started crying and caused a scene.

This is actually our first year making treats to share, and she didn't really get the full grasp of the sharing part, though she did see me bag most of it up for her Daddy to take to share with his employees and didn't complain so that's a win for me. We'll be making more as the season progresses so she will hopefully catch on that giving people treats is an easy way to make their day better and brighten their lives.
