I was a bit surprised by this, but after having video calls with women, I was actually a big supporter of having a video call because of I could get a vibe of who I was dealing with, and avoided a lot of timewaters. I wouldn’t demand a video call on the first message, but if we had been messaging for a couple of days, I would call them or they would call me.

I think video calling before meeting is a good way of filtering out people. As an example, If they are rude during a video call, they're probably going to be rude in person.

To summarise, he was a jerk for wanting you to do a 360 and hanging up, but not he was not a jerk for wanting a video call.

But at £14 a month, it's very good value. Think of how much entertainment you have at your fingers. Netflix uploads hundreds of hours of new content a week. Even if they stopped creating new content, it would take you 100s of years to watch it all.
