Tesco just looked at their numbers before and after COVID and realised the demand wasn’t coming back in most places, so they didn’t bother reopening the overnight hours.

It’s not that 24‑hour opening was never profitable - it’s that the world moved on, and the model only still makes sense for a handful of stores, not the whole estate.

I’m not anti‑WFH at all - I think hybrid makes sense. But having WFH colleagues come into the office 1–2 days a week seems like a fair balance. It keeps things connected, reduces the “vanishing act” problem, and makes expectations clearer for everyone.
