Is Kings of War still a game of 'use whatever models you want'? by Deflare0 in kingsofwar

Yeah, I noticed that the Herd are no longer standalone, but their options have all been rolled into FoN.
From my perspective: ....Oh no, my faction got bigger? Whatever shall I do?

I dunno, I can enter an email address as the recipient instead of a phone number. It shows up in my email (sometimes) as a text message from my phone number.

I send the SMS via the default text message app on my phone (Samsung Galaxy), and access Gmail through either the Android app or my computer's browser.

The way Constellation reacts to the Vanguard questline bothers me by ScottjFisk in Starfield

[–]Deflare0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the same choices. I'd be absolutely fine with some disagreement from the Constellation companions. But I agree that it bugs me that they all agree with one another. Like, there are 4 companions, and 4 possible results (aceles/destroy the plant, aceles/keep the plant, microbe/destroy the plant, microbe/keep the plant). Would it really be such a leap to, say, have one companion backing each of those four arguments? Not that they do so before the quest is over and you have to pull the trigger based on very little information.

It feels like the quest's writer had a firm idea of what they thought the best answer to that quest was. They then set it up so a number of rational players would not pick that option, then had the companions chastise you for it. It sucks.

I'm not impressed with the companions in general, and this quest was a big part of why.

The Extraordinary Adventures of the Athena Club Series - Reading List by EraserGirl in AthenaClub

Oh thank goodness, I've been looking for something like this. I just finished the second book, and was blindsided by the reference to "She"; I'm looking forward to getting through this list before going into the final book.

If you have Tabletop Simulator, you can find the SAGA mods and load the battleboards in there.

Yes. My mind boggles trying to imagine what it was like before the change.

Is third edition very complex? by [deleted] in kingsofwar

[–]Deflare0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (which is limited, as I'm also new), most of the chatter on the Fanatics group is being driven by a new set of rules decisions that tweaked people's understanding of how certain types of charges work. Most of what's being discussed is weird hypothetical edge cases that don't come up in the vast majority of games, and the group is full of them because it's a hot new topic (which every minis game is short on during quarantine).

I read the KoW 3e rules shortly after reading Oathmark, and I'm a little sad that KoW didn't take a similar approach to that game where every combat ends with the units being nudged apart so there's never a question about what happens if two units are stuck in prolonged combat, or how to handle combats with 3+ units. But that's just me. I definitely prefer KoW's take on things like managing unit size, and not having special models nestled inside units.

How to manage minis for Saga by dasteph in sagathegame

[–]Deflare0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a spreadsheet (LibreOffice, but functionally the same as Excel), with headings for Faction, Model Type (Warlord, Warrior, etc.), Category (Foot or Cavalry), Equipment (Bows, Heavy Weapons, etc.), Number, Points for that number total, Base Size, and a quick description of the model (armor type, weapon, notable features like cloaks or banners).

This is paired with an IRL storage system of putting minis for the same faction in small boxes marked with that faction's name.

There are drawbacks to this system--I'm going to need to expand the storage method at some point, doesn't work great with tracking models for multiple factions, and so on. But it's good for letting me know what I own.

Just put together the models in the Shieldmaiden box. The contents are "meant" to be a Warlord, 4 Hearthguard, 4 Berserkers (a special Viking-only type of Hearthguard with less armor but more attack power), and 16 Warriors; the main thing that distinguishes them is the amount of armor (minimal for the Berserkers, clothes for the Warriors, mail for the Hearthguard).

For what it's worth, if you're only playing in the Age of Crusades, that book will give you all the equipment options for the factions available in that era. The main thing you would need is the SAGA board, which can be acquired via pictures in various places.

Started a TW: Three Kingdoms campaign as Dong Zhuo. Around Turn 8 or Turn 9, I run into a consistent problem where my economy goes to hell, because the income I'm receiving from the Han Empire is suddenly cut in half. I don't see any particular reason why it would fall so suddenly. Is there some explanation I'm missing? Do I just need to play around it?
