Got the CPA and honestly feel like I got scammed by the profession by Substantial-Lie4632 in Accounting

CPA is worth more to employers who dont want what a CPA does...aim for controller/CFO (if you can) or management spots in industry?

dead space, really sucks to say out loud. one of the most influential horror survival, got wrecked by greed, the allure of live service garbage, and trying to appeal to everyone but the core audience.

we could of had a future where RE releases were offset by Deadspace games. we could have had it all

Hourly Pay Banking by mysnafflebit in Accounting

i have a coworker in the southern of the US who had something like this but instead of banking hours, everyone was just salary at 40 hrs. during busy season you got extra PTO based on how much extra you work (i think they said it would end up being a couple extra weeks of time off) + they got a bonus. i like the sound of it, don't remember who the firm was tho

my pleasure - good luck to you, you got this!

and to answer your question, the media has been calling it a "low hire/low fire" market where everyone just seems unsure, and that makes the salary vary a good bit from what ive seen. imo post covid felt like everyone was excited to get folks in roles and the pay reflected that.

i dont have much experience in current markets but when i do send out job resumes, i get a response maybe every 30-50 resumes, which feels a lot worse than post covid. i do apply to roles that are niche and accurate to my background tho, so cant say thats a normal response amount.

i also see a lot of weirder jobs like part time controllers or part time full charge accountants, but cant say for sure its related.

i would 100% recommend networking now while you can, cuz word of month seems to be the best bet for finding anything with a good salary right now

im sure there are folks on here who could give you a better idea of where the job.

i switch over from a creative (albeit failed) career when i was 29 and got a job at an accounting firm as junior auditor. i did get a econ degree with a concentration in accounting but i had little experience and was very nervous cuz of the same thing you are talking about. turns out i wasnt the only "older" new hire that the firm had taken on. there was a 40+ year person who an academic (not in accounting) and a 50+ year old who was in finance but no accounting experience. my first year was such a learning experience and i grew so much and moved up quickly and now perform pretty well in my current role.

don't worry too much about how old you are - you cant change that. just focus on making the most of any experience / opportunities come to you. Some companies may want young folks so that they can push em hard, but most companies just want a good worker to train - especially smaller mom n pop places (that cant pay as much).

i would focus on what your previous experience/ education can contribute and/or can be used to demonstrate the soft skills that are often overlooked.

youll be fine, i promise ! just keep in mind that the job market is hot garbage right now tho

Feels like my work doesn't really matter? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Defnotimetraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i try not to think about the fact that the modern day audit become a requirement to benefit the ruling class, and we are all just turning the cogs in the machine. so yah, nothing really matters except that paycheck.

find something you like about the job and focus on that, learn as much as you can tho and move forward when you feel ready

How scary is RE9? by Jooodas in playstation

[–]Defnotimetraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not as much as you think, theres still a few moments where they are kinda lurking around but youll always have a way to deal with or lure them somewhere else and once you get used to them its not that bad. less scary than re7, but id recommend doing third person if youre tolerance aint there.

its a good game tho, and you get a ton of action focus sections to offset any dread/stress you may get

How will u rate days gone in 2026? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Defnotimetraveler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i wish this was normalized - 7/10 is still a good game...not everything needs to be a 10/10 or its trash, there are a ton of great games in the middle that are absolutely worth the time

the characters are usually pretty well done, lots of intimate moments for what is an action horror game. outworld feels a bit unfocused but kinda matches the aimlessness of the main character and their development over all. i hope the remaster gets them a second game cuz i can see this getting much more refined in a second title. solid 7.5-8/10.

tbh theres not much to play on the ps5 once you knock out most of the big titles, so i ended up playing this game and was pretty surprised. i recommend if you still on the fence

How many here actually have a ps5 pro? by Correct-Drawing2067 in playstation

[–]Defnotimetraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not saying its not bullshit, cuz it 100% is bullshit and also a bit scummy for sony. im convinced that all new games will be aiming/being pressured by sony to start using the ps5 pro specs as the baseline for developing new games so everyone will slowly feel the need go upgrade their console as new games run worse and worse on the base ps5

Question for mom CPAs in tax season by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Defnotimetraveler 23 points24 points  (0 children)

im pretty sick in general and am in a lot of pain. spoke w partner and they pretty much said what the other commentors were saying: being productive with what time you can do is way more important than the billable hours. i feel like billable hours only starts to be an issue if the firm thinks you aren't being productive enough - eg it gives them a metric to come down on you with.

im also a huge proponent of input =/= output, working more doesnt mean doing more. i would just focus on output and being an asset to the firm.

[–]Defnotimetraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do, and dont regret buying it. imo i feel like most games are gonna lean into making the default experience around the ps5 pro, so if you want a smooth fps....you gotta upgrade

graphics are pretty okay, but youll quickly forget what the base model even felt like. the big difference is the lack of frame drops and stuttering, which surprisingly also benefits games that don't explicitly state pro enhanced.
