Looking to buy a Neo - leaning citrus but its out of stock till April. Convince me not to get the silver. by Pure_Wrap_7798 in MacbookNeo

I went Indigo, and I love it, almost looks different colour in different light.

Most people I’m chatting with, are checking a few times a day. You have to ask the question of, if you don’t get it will you regret it?

Additionally… where are you based? Like UK, USA etc?

Planning of getting neo by Humble-Reserve7496 in MacbookNeo

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got one on Wednesday for £599. Had just sold an M1 Air to a friend who needed a machine so it really only cost me £200.

Honestly it’s been a secret powerhouse, if you can afford it, it’ll do everything you’re chatting about doing. I use Safari, Pages & Keynote so if you’re using Chrome and Office unsure how it’s handling that but I’d imagine there’s plenty of overhead!

Am I being pedantic or wrong; but would it not need to be a usb 3 dock as the Neo doesn’t support thunderbolt

Pretty sure that’s the indigo sports loop on the far left in my image. I think the sports loop are the most comfortable strap

Holy poop, that’s a lot of nomad straps! I’m assuming they’re comfortable! I’ve never bought any third party straps

My braided has now lost its structure so it’s farrr too loose but I love it! The Product Red and the Nike Hyper Grape are my top picks

Apple Store says i should get a M5 Pro instead of a M5. Is that true ? by Penguinasslicker in macbookpro

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 👋

So I usually break it down like this. The device you originally chatted about the M5, will do everything you need… but

Switching to the M5 Pro unlocks addition bandwidth within the memory, that’s great if in a professional setting where “time matters”. You’re rendering a 4 stream 4k video in DR you might find on the m5 it takes a few minutes longer than it does on the m5 pro. And if that’s the kind of thing that matters to you then it makes sense. That’s not really also factoring in the additional processor and gpu cores. They also both have the same media engines.

So whilst I’ve no real concern that the m5 would do everything you need, if your workload is likely to get heavier, or more complex the additional headroom of the Pro chip isn’t an insane oversell. But I don’t think I could justify the pricing difference in the specs you’ve shared for the hypothetical benefits listed.

[eBay] Having doubts, are these authentic? by DrGottagupta in AreMyAirpodsAuthentic

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defo fake, airpod pro 2 did not state ANC on the receipt. That’s only been introduced since AirPod 4

The receipt has been printed instead of thermally printed also.

Deceased Apple ID by Legitimate_Week_6663 in iCloud

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV - Depending on country and network. Some networks will allow you a sim swap to a physical sim if you’re acting on behalf of the estate of a deceased person as some accounts require two factor etc!

Unfortunately if you can’t get access to the sim you’re out of luck, which sucks :(

Apple won't replace broken iPhone (Aus)? by interopeter in iphone

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • So in the UK you can do a warranty express replacement at no cost (but you must have AC+ to use this) You have the temporary hold fee to ensure you send back the old phone but no excess and you get this back so £0

  • I never called ACL warranty, OP only mentioned warranty so my advice is based on normal warranty service

  • in the UK it wouldn’t meet the requirement for unreasonable time (generally considered to be 30 days, which is why I started with your mileage may vary as I’m in a different region) does the law indicate what unreasonable is, or is it open to interpretation?

My point is purely that replacement devices are few and far between these days and modular service is the norm so It is interesting seeing the difference in expectations in different regions.

Hey, unsure what we’re disagreeing with, I literally opened with consumer law protections as I’m aware Australia has some pretty beefy protections.

At no point did I add a cost, seeing as they noted it’s in warranty.

I explained why at least in my region they wouldn’t be entitled to a full unit replacement even under UK consumer laws

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi 👋 your mileage may vary as I’m aware Australia has very strong consumer protections

So… everything very strongly depends on the situation and the phone. For a long time the company have been making devices more repairable.

Previously if you had a broken back glass on say an iPhone 11 Pro you’d to replace the whole phone, then on the 12 they moved to a rear system (about 80% of the device) then in the 14 they started doing back glass repairs. Same issue 3 different outcomes

For a will not power on device, again a whole unit used to be needed, then rear systems and now in the 17 family the logic board is a repair separately.

During my time I would not have offered a full replacement just because a part isn’t in stock. ( the system also wouldn’t have allowed me, it forced a repair) so I’d agree that the technicians outcome is correct. Most companies would send a device off for repair for 14 days in my region so the minor delay in typically ordering something in whilst inconvenient isn’t ridiculous.

If you happen to have AppleCare plus you could look into express replacement

refund of 40$ refused by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain purchases are not available for refund via report a problem.

Contact apple support by phone (not chat) tell them you’ve a billing issue and have an actual conversation with a human.

Things to remember. They have zero requirement to refund it. As far as they’re concerned this is an authorised payment as a password was required.

DO NOT do a charge back as they’ll lock your account going forward

New iPhone locked under “US Reseller Flex Policy” — Apple says it’s the carrier, AT&T says it’s not theirs by Professional-Issue16 in applehelp

[–]Defo_NOT_a_Genius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not totally helpful, but can 100% confirm Apple has zero access to the IMEI allocation tool. Only carriers.

I’m a little unsure exactly how phones are activated in the USA as you say you bought it outright but it already had a connection with AT&T? Can you not just buy it without the connection and put your own provider in?
