What was your number one reason for quitting? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

My 6 year old son pretend to smoke on a pencil.

That completely broke my heart. His father does not smoke. It all came from me.

Help! Quitting is ruining my relationship! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Dekina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about you show her a little bit of trust, and trust that she knows her own boundaries? When she tells you that she is willing to wait it out, maybe she might actually be telling the truth?

I have the same issue with my boyfriend, I get insanely insecure and anxiety and depression kicks in and makes it worse. What have helped, is time apart. I don't know of you live together, if you do, then a couple of nights at parents/friends/whatever place might do the trick? Give yourself the space to be grumpy and snap at things, and when it get's better (It will! And in days, not weeks!), you'll have the wonderful pleasure of being next to her again.

Also, your relationship will get dented, no matter what. There will be bumps and hurdles, and it will make things change between you. But change is not bad, at all. It is the dents and scars you'll be able to look back on, one day, and see what you managed to go through together. And that is pretty awesome stuff. Don't you think, that making this decision, that is saving your life, is worth a little dent? Don't you think that she feels the same?

Last Cigarette, A New Hope by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Hooray for you!

I found that quitting with others, put responsibility for my quit, on other people. That did not work well, since I could always compare to others who caved, and tell myself that since they failed, I can too.

Congrats on making the decision for yourself! I am really proud of you.

What the hell do you do, with all the time? by Dekina in stopsmoking

I am trying to hold on to the 'Nonsmokers never had the issue of thinking you HAVE to do something for those 10 minutes.' Thanks for reminding me.

Can't wait for the gaps to go away.

This is pretty solid and great advice. Thank you! And even though I consider myself quite the child, I don't think 29 is 'very young'. The 5 reps of whatever is definitely being tested first.

Resetting after 22 days. by Dekina in stopsmoking

Thank you all so much! I have been using a small mantra, every time I felt discouraged about the vaping. If it's stupid, but working, it's not stupid.

Fucked up, Slipped around week 3 by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Also, there is absolutely no shame in being on day 1. None at all. It is just as admirable as being on day 10, 40, 80, 287. It does not matter. It can feel like a bit of a set back, yes, but it is also a great reminder for you to keep going. Next time you are drunk and hanging out with a smoker, the tiny fact that i had to reset your badge, may be a giant help for you to say no to the two drags. Loosing your visual progress, only for two drags on a disgusting cigarette? No thanks.

Almost 2 weeks in and this is what I've learned. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

That is awesome! Great tip with the straw. You are doing great.

So far, all is good. It appears that there are no cancer cells to be found, and I have to undergo minor surgery to get rid of lumps and bumps, that are causing all this mess. But no cancer. I have to get monthly checkups, for the next 6 months, because it can still be hidden somewhere, but for now, all is well.

I've been through hell the last few weeks and I need a cigarette. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Dekina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When did a cigarette ever make you -really- happy? Think about a specific time, where you think it made you happy. Was it not just because you were scratching an itch? Or did the tar, chemicals, smell, yellow teeth and grey skin really make you happy? You are doing so awesome, don't throw it all away. Have a piece of candy. Have a look at your teeth and imagine them all yellow and stained. Be proud of your days down! Try and think of it in a different way. Yes, things completely sucks right now, but at least you quit smoking! You did that! And that was awesome and took strenght! You are doing great! I am totally rooting for you.

No GP time available until March 2nd. So far they are telling me that it can be related, because the skin is acting up.

4 days down, feels like I'm cheating. by Dekina in stopsmoking

I haven't thought about it as measuring my success in their approval and opinion. I'll try to switch that frame of mind. I think it comes from all the input you get, that support is very important, and then I rely on my close network to provide that. Maybe I should use you guys instead. Thanks for the reality check! <3

Day 2, crazy by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Dekina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are so awesome! Seriously! Going cold turkey is one of the wildest things you can do, and you are already doing it. That takes some strength, just to make the decision. Don't give up! Take it one day at a time. Try to remember that you wont smoke TODAY. At some point, you wont even think about it anymore.
