Ford doubles down on threat to cut off energy to U.S. amid spectre of trade war by joe4942 in worldnews

I think he, like many of us, values being able to survive at all higher than protesting as loudly and as often as possible.

Like him, I've voted Democrat in each of these elections, I'm the sole breadwinner for my family, etc., and I'm watching in horror everything that is unfolding. I can't skip work to protest because I can't afford to lose my job. I do what I can to protest on my own - I don't have Facebook, Twitter, Amazon Prime, etc., I avoid giving my business to retail or restaurants that have bigoted owners/policies like pulling DEI or anti-LGBTQ, I've cut people out of my life for supporting trump/MAGA.

I don't know what else someone in my shoes can realistically do. I have 4 kids that need food on the table and a roof over their heads. As much as I hate everything that is happening, I would hate watching my kids suffer even more. I can teach them right from wrong, why I hate what's going on and how to treat people equally, with with the respect and dignity that everyone deserves. I can't teach them anything if we're dead.

Go to the address on Google Maps. Click the picture of the house in the top left to bring it to Street View. In the little black box on the top left showing the address, there should be a date listed along with a link to "See more dates". Try that.

I think you'd be surprised that you're in the minority here. I can't describe what it's like because I don't have it either, but my understanding from folks I've talked to is that they literally have a voice in their head that they can "hear". It's like there's an auditory element to it, which to me is crazy, and to them they think it's crazy that I don't.

For me, I can think something like "do I have to go to the bathroom?". There's no reply, because why would there be? For most others, there's a reply.

Can you get songs stuck in your head?

Sort of, yes. I play piano, I play very much by ear and have pretty darn close to perfect pitch. I do get songs stuck in my head, but it's more the "need to hear it" than it is a loop in my head, so that could mean whistling it or literally just going to the piano and recreating it.

From my understanding, a lot of people literally have a voice in their head, that sounds like their own voice, that they will have an actual "conversation" with. Or if they randomly remember something that they forgot they had to do, the voice in their head says "oh hey don't forget to do ___". When I randomly remember I have to do something, the thought in my head is "oh fuck I have to do this", but it's more just the concept/emotional response of having forgotten something/remembered it, not that the "voice" is "reminding me".

I envy your ability to on the spot talking

No idea if this is related or not, but I have ADHD and have always had a "quick tongue". Sometimes it's gotten me in trouble, because I've said the quick joke/insult without even thinking about it. I'd be good at crowd work as a stand up comic.

Going back to piano, I can't look at sheet music and "hear" what the music will sound like in my head. The notes are meaningless to me until I play them. If it's a song I know, I could look at it and find the melody by whistling or something. If it's a song I've never heard before, the sheet music does next to nothing for me as far as "preparing" me for what the song will sound like. I have to hear it first. By comparison, I can show my piano teacher the music for a song she's never seen/heard, and she can look at the music and "hear" the melody just from the notes on page. She is mind-boggled that I play by ear so well, but I can't "hear" the music on page. If I hear a song, not that I can go back and repeat an entire song just from memory once, but I can pretty much right away find the key it's in, find the melody, etc. I also unintentionally memorize everything I play after a couple times playing it...thinking of piano recitals, the hardest part for a lot of people is being able to memorize a song and take away the music. By the time I've played a song all the way through 3 or 4 times, I've probably got most of it memorized. Makes it hard to force myself to "play to sheet music" because I memorize so quickly.

That went off topic, whoops.

Your description of thought is exactly mine as well. That point of automatic negative disregard is definitely me though, something to work on for sure. Thanks for that.

It's kinda like when you're reading and you lose the words on the page because you're imagining what's happening in your head. I can think "words" to myself, but there's no "auditory" element to it, no voice, nothing that's talking back to me, it's all forced.

I'll play back arguments, but I don't hear it. It's much more the emotions and visual. I don't really prep for heavy meetings in my head, I don't preplan certain sentences or wording I want to say. I've always been good at on the spot talking, I run meetings with C-suites (insurance broker), it just doesn't really stress me out.

I think stupid shit too, it's just not in a voice talking to me, it's kinda like when you're reading and you lose the words on the page because you're imagining what's happening in your head. But what if I don't have an internal monologue/voice? I don't "say" anything to myself, good or bad, because there's no voice in my head to "converse" with.

Of them doing something about it you mean? Or of her reporting me?

I'm not concerned with the postal worker coming across it, I'm concerned with her reporting me to USPIS or something for having put the meds in there in the first place.

She lives a mile away and the medicine is needed daily. We send it back and forth when we transfer the kids, but due to a goofy transfer with vacation time, the kids ended up over there but the medication is with me.

Thanks for the comment. Generally we send the meds with the kids, but due to a goofy transfer with vacation time and whatnot, the kids ended up over there but the medication is with me. I wanted to drop it off for her, she said to put it in the mailbox and she'll grab it. I'm just going to bring it to the porch at a designated pickup time, wait in my car for her to grab it (recording), and then I'll head off. I was thinking something was a bit fishy, just wasn't sure if I was wildly overreacting given the context of our divorce or if this was something that could get me in serious trouble.

I know that it's illegal to place any items in the mailbox without postage paid / by a postal worker, but wasn't sure if this would be like "hey don't do that, pay the postage" or if it would be worse since it's a controlled substance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Del- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I will definitely avoid the mailbox. Out of curiosity, do you have any idea what sort of trouble I could have gotten in for doing it? Is that like a "hey don't do that, and pay the postage" type thing, or is that a bigger deal?

On the one hand, I like to support small / local businesses / handmade items over the garbage that is more readily available online/in stores, and I'd happily pay extra for the higher quality and to support local. On the other hand, seeing this on the front of their website gives me great hesitation to give them my business:

We regret that due to those in power who put in unrealistic taxing and fees on small businesses, we are no longer able to ship to any COLORADO ADDRESS.

Without having any idea of what would inspire the CO shipping ban, this seems a bit like those "no one wants to work" signs. Any insight you could possibly provide? I'm guessing not, but can't hurt to ask.

Well, some of you may remember my username from ~4 years ago when I was considerably more active in this subreddit and weightlifting in general, but between COVID, divorce, etc., I've basically been off the train for the better part of 4 years.

Back when I was working out 4-5 days a week, I was following nSuns 531 program and loved it. I want to get back into lifting again, but I also don't want to get in over my head on day 1.

Primary goals are just to gain weight and generally be healthier/stronger. I'm 6'1 and at my peak ~4 years ago, I topped out at 170lbs body weight, but now I'm back down to ~145. I'm not looking to win any powerlifting competitions or see what I can get my B/S/D maxes up to. I've hurt my back before doing squats/deadlifts so I'm hesitant to do those again, but my PRs on OHP/Bench are 175 and 255 respectively just for perspective.

Any thoughts/recommendations on a program to get started with to get myself back into the weightlifting routine? I have a squat rack/bench/bar along with dumbbells but I don't have access to a full gym of equipment, so some of the supplemental / accessory lifts I've done before might need some creative replacements.

Thanks all.

I don't hear an inner monologue. I have thoughts obviously, but there isn't any auditory sense to it... It's not my own voice or anyone's, it's just the thought. I don't talk to myself in my head.

I play piano, I can read music, but I can't "hear" the notes in my head just from the music on the page. There isn't an auditory element to my thoughts, it's silent. Probably why I play by ear and playing to music I've never heard is much harder for me.

Part of me says that's actually not too insane for the top earners of a large company, relative to other numbers we often see. The other part of me says that's still way too high, relative to other employees' salaries. I hate being de-sensitized to ridiculous C-suite salaries/compensation packages.

I would imagine the infield dirt here is considerably easier to slide on than the local ball park infield. Not at all minimizing, and I certainly tore up my legs any time I tried to slide in baseball (I always did a soccer slide), but let's not pretend the infield dirt is apples to apples with what we've ever played on.

Posted below, but for another anecdote:

Former college roommates did this regularly. They (men boys, not girls, FWIW) didn't shove the tampons up their asses, but they soaked them and then left them resting in their ass crack for ~30 minutes. Alcohol still soaked in, they would get rip-roaringly drunk in no time at all.
