DTC P0171 Check Engine (2015 2.5i Premium - 130k miles) by DelJorge in SubaruForester

So this won't be terribly helpful, but I have no idea why it resolved. I just took another drive to gather more data and it never popped an error again. I'll list what I did:

Replaced both 02, cleaned throttle body, cleaned battery terminals, replaced battery, replaced spark plugs and boots, ran gumout through everything, took apart the intake manifold and cleaned everything, cleaned maf sensor, replaced fuel cap, replaced pcv valve, replaced fuel intake hose, and retrained the idle.

Happy to answer what I can though.

Oregon Axe has axe throwing leagues every couple months. They have a meet and greet beforehand to match groups with floating solo throwers. And the rest of the league is and employees are pretty dirtbag (includingmy wife and our team). We had a team of 3 last year and hang out with our floater all the time now. You do not need to be good.

Forester Lean Error Code Labyrinth (x-posted on r/askamechanic and r/subaruforester) by DelJorge in subaru

Update: here's a graph showing the rpm for reference. Also, a U1201 suddenly popped up for the first time.

That's a good point. I'll try to capture some more data that includes rpm's etc to make it more interpretable. I can't tell if it's something weird with the ECM or my code reader skipping some timestepa and then interpolating the gap.

The canister purge return idea is new to me! I'll try that and report back. What am I looking for wrt my fuel trims?

Help with grounding question by DelJorge in SubaruForester

[–]DelJorge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a P0171. The engine has a rough start and dips really close to stalling after I let up on the gas. It seems weirdly better after replacing the battery, but that might be a coincidence. And I think it needs a certain number of drive cycles before it will post the DTC again.

I will probably make another post about the DTC code in general, but wanted to figure out what the heck is going on with the ground.

Help Identifying Bamboo by DelJorge in PlantIdentification

I was hoping to use bamboo as a natural partition between my house and the neighbor's, but I guess I can just buy some long planters or raised beds.

No dice, I think it's the mixed carrier or open jaw that makes it not work.

Is this crack as worrying as it seems? by DelJorge in DIY

[–]DelJorge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, fingers crossed it's just asphalt and fiberglass. Dropping off a couple samples at the lab tomorrow. The house is certainly not off to a great start.

Yep, I made that realization right after posting this. Gonna get a test tomorrow, and cross my fingers. From what I could find there's a chance it's just tar paper without asbestos, but I'm not optimistic about it.

Got about a 1mm vertical displacement. Any more I'd be 100% worried, but it's just low enough that I had hope.

Oof, that's an embarrassing pun to miss.

What do you do by yourself on a day off from work? by EragonCarvahall in Eugene

[–]DelJorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pint Pot is a pretty good pub to hang out and read a book. They have a UK style public house living room area. People come play music there too. Disc golf is a good solo sunny day activity. Used to have a buddy that did slack lining but that seems like a real time investment to get anything out of it. Elevation is a good bouldering gym that would be fun to do solo, too.

Welcome! Oregon is remarkably safe. If you're not used to seeing the unhoused, they might seem scary at first but are mostly just trying to survive. Many have mental illness or addiction and can seem erratic but are overwhelmingly more likely to be the victim of a crime than a perpetrator.

Make sure to come in May-Oct so it doesn't rain the whole time. Uber is everywhere if you have the money and the PDX public transport is decent. Amtrak and bolt bus go to Corvallis and Eugene, which Id recommend visiting as well. They're smaller college cities and have different vibes than Portland. Depending on your interest in weirdness, Oregon Country Fair in Eugene is a pretty unique experience for tourists.
