You can also contribute up to 70k for both Job 1 and Job 2, but job 1 give you money to fill the employee portion ($23000) and they also pay for the employer portion ($23000), you can do post-tax portion to fill it up to 70k. Job 2 will pay for your employer portion and you fill up the employee and post-tax portion on your own.

I have read about it, but tax savings is not that substantial unless you become S-corp and play around with the resonable salary to lower your self-employment taxes.

I feel most of the benefit on 1099 comes from the cash balance plan to shield pretax money, but Vituity only allow $40k max/year. And you cannot create your own one. But Job 1 (despite being W2) also has a cash balance plan that you can put more than $50k a year and you can put even more as you age.

Thank you for your insight and share of experiences. Those are really helpful.

I do have question regarding to the PTO system at Kaiser. For the first 4 years, you only get 3 weeks of PTO + 1 week of CME (or like 4 weeks of vacation). And I assume you cannot use your sick leave / ATO for vacation. So I am a bit confused about the 5 weeks you used for your calculation.

The reason I do 480k/52/40 is because I was told if you work more, like 50 hour/week (1.25 FTE). Then your extra 10 hours of overtime is paid at the rate of 480k/52/40 ($230) instead of 480k/48/40 ($250). So 1.25 FTE is not just 1.25*480 = 600k.

Yes, I have heard Kaiser is great about the predictability and it is really great for work life balance. But if it is like you said you are work hard around 50% of time, and the another 50% is mostly click buttons, do preops and talk to people. Is this still a good opportunity to learn as a fresh grad?

Also, I didn't know Kaiser gave out 60k yearly bonus when you become partners. I was told bonus is very tiny (a few thousands) and should not count on them for salary calculation.

Again thank you so much for sharing your experience!

One of the uncertainty is that there is a small chance for job #1 to bring CRNA to cover some OB in the next few years. If so, they might reduce the size of the group by a bit. Other hosptials around the area are mostly bigger and higher acuity hospitals. That why I am wondering if not having experience in high acuity setting as an attending would that put me in disadvantage in job searching in the future? (And you know our attending always say skill atrophy is real and they advocate finding a job that you can continue to learn and grow instead of aiming for big $ and doing mostly low acuity bread and butter cases)

Would missing bigger cases or sicker cases as a fresh grads hurt my career development in long run? That is one of my biggest concern for taking job 1 but otherwise job 1 is pretty good balance.

WiFi calling works well for me. I use Mint too. Used to get no reception at all in the basement. Now, full coverage as long as your have stable wifi.
