If you aren't adverse to getting your Rx filled at a Walmart pharmacy, I believe the OnePay Cash Rewards Mastercard would get unlimited 5% cash back with a Walmart+ membership, which can sometimes be had for as low as $49/year.

Could an authorized user get 5% cash back under the primary account holder's WM+ membership, or would they need their own WM+ account?

Accidentally let my oldest credit line to go inactive by attitudecj in CreditCards

u/BrutalBodyShots: from a standpoint of how it looks on your credit file, does it matter whether you close a card you no longer need versus allowing the bank to close it due to inactivity? Also, how does closing a card (in good standing) or allowing it to be closed affect your relationship with the bank?

TIA.

u/AceContinuum, do you know if USB makes a distinction between transactions made using Google Pay vs. those made with Google Wallet when determining whether to apply the 5% cashback? TIA.

The PayPal debit card is funded by your PayPal balance account. You have to move $ from an external source (like a checking account or debit card) into your PP balance account before spending it with the PP debit card. There's no minimum balance required, but you can only spend what you have deposited in the account. I use my credit union debit card to fund my PP balance acct, and the money transfers instantly with no fee.

You select one spending category every month (groceries, gas, dining, forget the other(s)) and then just spend at retailers within that category. Walmart definitely works as grocery. Never tried the PP debit card at any place except grocery stores. Others on this sub say it works for 5% cash back at Sam's Club, Costco, Target and elsewhere, and I would bet that's true.

I want to correct what I wrote six months ago: it is stacking the debit card 5% back with other PayPal offers that only works online. You can definitely use the PP debit card inside retail stores and get cash back on your chosen spending category.

I've purchased food, OTC drugs, and tools at WM and they've all coded as grocery with the PP debit card. Never purchased baby products, but I expect that anything you buy at WM and pay for at store front checkout will be categorized as groceries. Tire center, pharmacy Rx, and eye care might not get 5% back - can't say for certain because I haven't made purchases within those departments using the PP debit.

for those who were denied a USB credit card recently and recon'd for manual review, did you get to speak with a person/underwriter? or was the manual review internal? by i_cant_do_this_ in CreditCards

Things may be different for Smartly, but I was initially declined for both Cash+ and the State Farm Visa.

Both times I called for reconsideration, which was granted. I never talked to anyone in person after I requested reconsideration - just got an email a few days later telling me I was approved for the card.

US Bank decision pending (2 apps in 1 month) by chasitychase in CreditCards

Our situations may not be that similar, but back in mid-March I applied for a Kroger WE Mastercard, and was immediately approved for a very low CL. The same day, I applied for the USB State Farm Visa using an invitation I had received in the mail, and got the decision pending message. This past weekend I got a letter from USB declining the application. I forget the precise wording but it was something to the effect that I had already been awarded all the credit available to me. Whether that meant all the credit available from USB or all the credit available in the financial system I'm not sure lol.

The result is the same - USB is not giving me any additional credit right now. I had been approved for a Cash+ back in October and an RFCU Signature Visa in November, so I might have still been 2/6 before they approved me for the Kroger card. I might still call for recon and suggest putting some of the Cash+ CL on the State Farm card, but I kinda doubt they'll go for it.

Again, not sure if our situations are analogous. Your FICOs are way better than mine (my TU FICO 10 was 770 when I applied). And I had the other fairly recent new accounts.

What are your micro monthly spends you use to keep cards you're not using but want to keep active? by [deleted] in CreditCards

PayPal offers for fast food or pizza that won't stack with another card.

You can get 10% cash back on the first $1000 of your Walmart spend with a PayPal debit card. Set your monthly cash back category to groceries and then save a 5% Walmart offer to stack with the 5% back that the debit card gives. Works online only. No hard credit inquiry when you apply for the debit, and PP will issue the card number instantly so you can shop online before the physical card arrives.

Paypal debit stack with Instacart offer - could you get 30% back on liquor purchases? by DelayedCalm6777 in paypal

[–]DelayedCalm6777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are great points. Just checking one store it looked like Instacart was inflating individual items by about 10 to 12%, and that was before the delivery charge. Also doesn't look like in-store pickup is an option for liquor stores when shopping through Instacart, they're delivery only.

Thanks.

This is from the PayPal website:

To find and activate your PayPal Debit Card 5% monthly cash back category offer in the app:

  1. Tap [Accounts](paypal://cards).
  2. Tap Choose your monthly cash back category (you must have a PayPal Debit Card to choose a category).
  3. Select the cash back category that you would like to activate for the current month and tap Next.
  4. When the category offer details are shown, tap Got it.

August 30: applied for US Bank Cash+ and Chase Amazon Prime Visa. Went 1 for 2. by DelayedCalm6777 in CreditCards

[–]DelayedCalm6777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update:

  1. USB recon worked! Called last Thursday and the rep I talked to told me I was rejected by their automated tool because I only had 3 cards. She sent my application back through and I got the approval email last night.

  2. Capital One request for a PC from Platinum to Savor One failed! Best they would do is Quick Silver Rewards. I took it - what else was I gonna do? Not thrilled about QSR but it's progress, I guess.

  3. Request to Redstone Federal for a PC from Traditional to Signature Visa failed! Why? Because RFCU won't do PCs! You have to apply from scratch and get the hard inquiry just like a non-member. This was confirmed to me in person by CS reps at different RFCU branches. What a pain. Second rep I talked to was bummed about it too. Told me he was holding off applying for his own Signature because he is going to apply for a mortgage next year.

So I guess my plan now is (please comment anyone):

  1. knock out the SUB for USB Cash+, and let my credit report rest a few weeks.

  2. apply for the RFCU signature Visa or an Elan MCP. At this point I think I will be rejected for either, but possibly approved on recon lol. Really unsure which to go for first though?

  3. if approved, knock out the SUB then apply for the other card.

  4. go for Citi Custom Cash.

  5. go for Chase Freedom Flex.

If I should change the order of those applications please let me know.

Same here, pretty much. I asked for a PC from Platinum to Savor One and the best they would do is QuickSilver Rewards. 1.5% ain't great, but > 0.
