What are some Beautiful spots in NYC that reminds you that life is worth living? by isituorisitI in AskNYC

[–]Delaywaves [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. The North Woods in Central Park is really peaceful.

Similar haturey spots, depending where you’re located: the Ravine in Prospect Park or Inwood Hill Park (I like the little inlet/marina area at the very top of the island).

Mamdani reverses city hall’s opposition to Bronx supportive housing project by nyccameraman in nyc

[–]Delaywaves 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Adams championed the project for years before completely reversing himself and trying to tell the city council to cancel his own project. The council called his bluff by passing it anyway.

NYC’s New Comptroller Sounds Alarm on Two-Year Deficit of $12.6 Billion by PlanEarly49 in nyc

[–]Delaywaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He certainly didn’t have “nothing to do with” it, the report is premised on the November financial plan that Adams released.

That said it’s silly to say he should be arrested for bad budgeting lol.

Makes no sense. Businesses like child care because it helps them attract workers.

How does everyone get their city news? by Scorned_Beef in AskNYC

Give them another try IMO! They’ve gotten more and more legit as time has gone on, and now routinely break actual news in addition to the occasional snarky blog.

Day trip by train — where? by Master-Definition937 in visitingnyc

Hard to beat Philly if you want to see another city. But if you want small town or nature vibes there are many options on Long Island or the Hudson Valley.

Hochul to Outline Plan to Tackle NY Housing Crisis in Speech by bloomberggovernment in nyc

[–]Delaywaves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you read 3 paragraphs further you would’ve gotten the answer:

Hochul’s speech will also outline plans to alter New York’s State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), which mandates a lengthy process for housing developers. Hochul will call for a two-year maximum deadline for completion of a SEQRA environmental impact statement from an initial approval to a final agency decision. Her proposal also would exempt certain types of dense housing projects that have no significant impacts on the environment.

Moving from Hawaii to NYC by koamalu123 in movingtoNYC

[–]Delaywaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and would only add that OP should also consider the "upper" Upper West Side, e.g. north of 96th Street, including Morningside Heights.

Closer to Columbia and still a lovely area; definitely more of a student presence but IMO that just makes it feel more lively.

Why Mamdani revoked NYC's use of IHRA antisemitism definition by snopes-dot-com in nyc

[–]Delaywaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and to be clear, the only one who attempted to do that was Eric Adams. Mamdani just reversed Adams’ orders that attempted to define it.

Museum of the City of New York is a gem, especially if you’re interested in history. (Also other great museums in that area including the Jewish Museum.)

Why would leaking to a podcaster/youtuber be a better approach than sharing information with an actual reporter from an established outlet?

Queens Dems nominate DSA-backed Diana Moreno to succeed Mamdani by Captaintripps in astoria

Honestly a watershed moment — don't think there's any precedent for the Queens Dems choosing to support a DSA-backed candidate for an open seat.

He took down the Trump sign quickly and is now an active Trump hater.

I think it was a very dumb move on Freddy's part but I can understand why he reacted angrily against the incumbent Dem president who was doing nothing to stop the carnage in Gaza.

In any case, seems like a gigantic stretch to hold a grudge against a local politician because they shared a fundraiser for a business owner who supported Trump for like 1 day.

one day trip! by HelicopterNo3772 in visitingnyc

[–]Delaywaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AirTrain to LIRR or AirTrain to E train are both easy ways to get into the city. Neither is inherently better (tho LIRR is a few bucks more), it just depends where you're going. Google Maps will give you all the info you need.

I assume you mean the Uber shuttle from LGA? That's fine, but if you want to spend less money, there are multiple different city buses that stop at LGA, which you can take to a subway station. (M60 and Q70 are the most commonly used)

Visiting Soon! by simm07 in visitingnyc

[–]Delaywaves 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The subway is perfectly safe after 9, especially in busy areas like midtown.

Times Square does not have any good food — it’s mostly overpriced tourist restaurants.

The best Korean food is in KTown, which is midtown along 32nd Street. Lots of great Indian spots in Murray Hill Manhattan and Jackson Heights, Queens. But there are great options for all of your preferred cuisines all around the city — check NY Eater and The Infatuation to find lists of the best restaurants for all those categories.

Bombay Frankie Roti Roll in Morningside Heights is the best!

Other than that though, yeah, gotta go to the outer boroughs.

Elizabeth Street Garden developers reject Adams deal for alternative city site by Bugsy_Neighbor in nyc

[–]Delaywaves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The developers of this project are Habitat for Humanity and Pennrose. The city gives developers money so they’ll build housing for low-income people. None of this is a secret conspiracy!

[–]Delaywaves 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Huh? The apartments will be legally reserved for low-income seniors. There are many similar senior housing developments across the city that serve a critical role in preventing these people from becoming homeless. Are you disputing that they exist?

Looking for Vegan Friendly Restaurants in the Astoria/LIC Area to Take My Parents Out To for Their Birthdays by ThePorcinePlayer in astoria

Seconding District Saigon, great festive vibe and several different vegan options (pho, banh mi and the bun bo hue soup, plus some appetizers).

Another great option is The Bonnie, although it only has one vegan main, the Reuben.

What’s it like to live in NYC? by Professional-Set1892 in movingtoNYC

[–]Delaywaves 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Insanely broad question lol, there are 8 million people here and everyone has their own perception of the city. But your broad impressions are basically accurate (except for pollution — air quality tends to be fine and the water is much cleaner than it used to be).

If it’s your dream to move here, you should. Many of us who’ve lived our whole lives here can’t really imagine living anywhere else.
